About the Company

At Allume Energy, we believe clean energy should be accessible to everyone - no matter where they live. We’re a Melbourne based technology company focused on unlocking solar access for apartments and multi-tenanted buildings. Our world-first hardware and software product, SolShare, is a powerful solution to an emerging energy equity issue and reducing global carbon emissions.

Built here in Melbourne, SolShare has connected over 9,000 apartments to rooftop solar across Australia, the UK and the US. We are doubling our installation base each year and have ambition to connect over 100,000 apartments to solar by 2029. Our dedication to fighting this cause flows through everything that we do.

About the Role

Allume Energy is continuing to grow our product development team as we design and industrialise new products for the global market. Our product, SolShare, spans the mechanical, electrical, electronics, firmware and web software engineering spheres.

We are looking for a driven, adaptable, and experienced Principal Electronics Design Engineer to drive and deliver the product and solutions that will allow us to scale globally.

Success in this role requires a blend of initiative to identify opportunities within our electrical architecture to gain a competitive edge, the diligence to manage end-to-end development - ensuring that new concepts are designed, implemented and verified to high standards - and the persistence for complex problem-solving.

Candidates should be excited by the opportunity to work in a small fast-growing business with plenty of opportunities for professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering for high volume manufacture, product cost, reliability and market fit, including both whole product and core-technology focus areas.
  • Prototype, test and verification of an integrated product, with focus on the electronics system.
  • Contribute to planning and execution of regulatory testing and compliance for global markets.
  • Continuous improvement of electronics design and testing processes and tools, raising the bar for quality and efficiency of the team.
  • Maintain and support existing product portfolio currently being manufactured with design updates, obsolescence management and QA activities.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in electronics product development from concept through to transfer to manufacture.
  • Ability to provide strategic technical leadership and end-to-end accountability for complex electrical work packages.
  • Experience in designing (including schematics and layouts), prototyping and testing electronics hardware systems (Altium preferred).
  • Experience in product compliance for electrical safety, EMC and environmental standards.
  • Willingness to work hands on in an electronics lab environment for prototype and test.
  • Collaborative team-based approach with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Resilience and adaptability to work in an early-stage business.
  • Mechatronics, Electrical/Electronics or similar engineering degree.

Bonus points for: Professional Engineers/CPEng registration; or experience in any of the following areas: systems engineering, scale-ups, solar industry, IoT or power electronics, people management or mentoring.

What we Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits.
  • Flexible hours and hybrid work arrangements.
  • 25 days annual leave.
  • Progressive parental leave: 15 weeks paid for primary carers, 5 weeks paid for partners (no minimum tenure).
