What You Will Be Doing: We are looking for a Principal Control Systems Engineer to join our control software group and develop solutions for controlling complex electro-mechanical and chemical systems. In this position, you will provide technical leadership to a team of control systems engineers, apply your knowledge of control theory and programming to create algorithms that automate hardware systems involving chemical reactors, combustion devices, and fuel cells. This role requires cross-functional collaboration with chemical, mechanical, and electrical engineers to gather specifications on system behavior and dynamics, which you will use to design and implement the control algorithms, tune the controller parameters and support testing in laboratory and field environments.
  • Participate and lead a team of control systems engineers to develop innovative controller strategies for Amogy’s Powerpack system
  • Participate and lead development, functional testing and validation of Basic Process Control System and Safety Instrumented System software
  • Write detailed functional design specifications, control narratives and interface requirements
  • Participate in P&ID reviews, HAZOP reviews and Layer of Protection Analysis
  • Review and assist in the development of system block diagrams, cause & effect matrices, Input Output lists, hardware requirements and specifications
  • Operate in agile framework and keep internal and external stakeholders well informed of the control software development
Requirements The minimum requirements we seek:
  • MS/PhD degree in Chemical, Electrical or related engineering field with a strong background in control theory
  • 10+ years of work experience in designing, analyzing, implementing and debugging feedback control systems
  • Knowledge of classical and modern control algorithms, such as PID loops, LQR, model predictive control
  • Experience in writing functional design specifications and working with suppliers to develop integrated control system
  • Extensive experience working with industrial control system communication protocols, e.g. Modbus TCP/IP and Ethernet
  • Understanding of combustion and reactor systems and fuel cells operation
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience with developing advanced control system algorithms for chemical processes controls/automotive controls
  • Experience developing control logic for industrial gas/fluid actuators such as proportional and solenoid valves
  • Experience with industry codes and standards for chemical processes, functional safety, and burner management systems (NFPA, API, IEC, ISA, etc.)
