We are looking for a Senior PLC Controls Engineer II to lead the development, testing, and validation of process control solutions supporting the commercialization of our innovative ammonia reforming technology. In this role, you will play a critical role in programming, configuring, and troubleshooting PLC-based control systems, and will be actively involved in validating system performance through pilot plant testing. We are looking for a Senior PLC Controls Engineer II to lead the development, testing, and validation of process control solutions supporting the commercialization of our innovative ammonia reforming technology. In this role, you will play a critical role in programming, configuring, and troubleshooting PLC-based control systems, and will be actively involved in validating system performance through pilot plant testing. What You’ll Be Doing
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand the automation and controls requirements of the chemical process and the testing facility, develop and maintain Siemens S7-1500 PLC based control systems that meet the performance, safety and regulatory standards
- Create and update the instrument and controls (I&C) list based on the facility piping and instrument drawings (P&IDs), generate/update PLC IO mapping engineering document, and configure the Siemens PLC according to the IO mapping
- Generate and update the control system (BPCS and SIS) requirements document for reactor and powerpack testing facility
- Develop and simulate control features based on the control system (BPCS and SIS) requirement
- Program BPCS and SIS using SIMATIC STEP 7 Professional V19, and STEP 7 Safety Advanced V19
- Simulate PLC programs using PLCSim Advanced
- Program Human Machine Interface (HMI) using WinCC OA
- Maintain and operate the facility’s BPCS and SIS and resolve software operational or performance issues, coordinate with vendors and/or third-party engineering companies while adhering to the corporate MOC policy.
- Manage the SCADA system hardware and software (engineering PCs, operator consoles, software and the associated versions control and update), set up and configure data historian, Firewall, Ethernet Switch, etc.
- Work in collaboration with the Electrical Team members on PLC system hardware testing, trouble shooting and commissioning.
- Work in collaboration with the chemical process engineer and test engineer on reactor, powerpack and facility testing
- Support the control and automation solutions development for reactor module technology demonstration unit, reactor module pilot unit and the future generation powerpack systems.
The minimum requirements we seek:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of hands-on experience with Siemens PLC programming using IEC 61131-3 (Ladder, Structure Text, Function Block) for BPCS and SIS
- 5+ years of experience in HMI development
- 5+ years of experience in SCADA network design & management, setup and configuration (data historian, Firewall, Ethernet Switch, etc.).
- 5+ years of experience in simulating PLC programs using PLCSim Advanced.
- Strong experience in developing process control systems using communication protocols, such as Modbus, CAN, J1939, PROFINET, OPC UA, and MQTT, etc.
- Experienced in process control and proficient in reading and understanding P&ID drawings and electrical schematics
- Experienced with sensors, actuators, pumps, VFDs and other process control and automation hardware.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience with Siemens PLC programming using IEC 61131-3 (Ladder, Structure Text, Function Block) for BPCS and SIS
- 8+ years of experience in developing redundant BPCS, SIS, Data Server Network
- 8+ years of experience in SCADA network architecture definition, setup and configuration (data historian, Firewall, Ethernet Switch, etc.)
- 5+ years of experience HMI using WinCC OA
- 5+ years of experience in developing cloud connection for remote monitoring Siemens PLC based process control system.
- Experienced in commissioning and maintaining electrical and control systems for large scale chemical facilities.
- Experienced in control algorithms development, simulation and codes generation using Simulink, State flow, MATLAB Coder and Simulink Coder.
- Having a good understanding and knowledge of college-level control theories, such as linear control, nonlinear control, multivariable control, etc.
- Experienced in developing and tuning closed-loop control systems, such as PID control and cascade control system, etc.
- Engineer In Training Certification (EIT) for control systems or Certified Controls Engineer
