We are a practical and lean start-up that quickly iterates and learns, and this has allowed Ampaire to be among the first of the electric aviation companies to fly. We currently are flying what we believe to be the world’s largest electrified aircraft by weight and capacity.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Leads the aero and powertrain configuration, sizing, and performance tools development, modeling, and validation for Ampaire’s portfolio of electrified propulsion aircraft
  • Develops, manages, and uses tools for predicting aero and powertrain efficiency broken down by component effects, fuel use, climb rate, cruise speed, propulsive power
  • Supports aero design for new aircraft designs as well as modifications for existing aircraft
    • CAD modeling
    • Structural analysis
    • CFD analysis
    • Thermal analysis
  • Leads the development of pilot operator handbook performance data charts and tables
  • Analyzes performance and operational consequences from fault accommodations
  • Supports mission/route analyses for customers and optimizes operational scenarios
  • Position based at Long Beach HQ facility
  • Reports to CTO

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering discipline
  • 6+ years of increasing responsibilities in aerospace, or equivalent, modeling and simulation projects
  • Expert knowledge of static and time-based “digital twin” modeling and simulation tools and techniques
  • Expert with Excel tools
  • Expert with Python programming tools
  • Expert with Mathworks Simulink tools
  • Proficient knowledge of aero performance, configuration, weight and balance, and sizing

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in relevant engineering discipline
  • Experience with DO-178 software development projects
  • Experience with airframe structural analysis
  • Proficient knowledge of pilot operator handbooks
  • Proficient with hybrid electric powertrain engineering
  • Proficient with GUI development
  • Proficient with C language programming
  • Proficient with CFD analysis tools

Salary

$115,000 - $215,000 per year
