Vehicle Asset Finance Manager

Location: Kigali, Rwanda

Contract Type: Full-time

Reports to: Country Lead

BasiGo is an early stage E-Mobility start-up working to create the future of clean, electric, and digitally-powered public transport in sub-Saharan Africa. BasiGo provides bus operators with a cost effective electric alternative to existing diesel buses. BasiGo Rwanda is looking for a dynamic, results driven individual to join our Team as the Vehicle Asset Finance Manager - an ambitious individual who can partner with multiple departments to drive measurable results that will push our business forward. The Vehicle Asset Finance Manager will report directly to the Country Lead, and manage the design and execution of the financial and legal frameworks and analysis of BasiGo’s innovative Pay-As-You-Drive subscription model.

Roles and Respons

  • Support the origination, analysis, structuring, documentation and execution of BasiGo’s Pay-As-You-Drive Service/Lease/Financing transactions;
  • Provide in-depth financial, legal, tax and risk analysis to develop the appropriate financing products and financing strategy for the BasiGo Assets;
  • Conduct Due Diligence and Know Your Customer research on BasiGo Reservees and Customers;
  • Assist in reviewing and negotiating agreements, financing, joint development and multi-partner agreements;
  • Develop and manage the insurance strategy for BasiGo Rwanda’s assets
  • Originate relationships and interface with financing institutions and partners, including but not limited to Development Finance Institutions, Guarantee Funds, Climate/Green Financing Institutions, Impact Debt Providers and Local Asset Financing Institutions. Coordinate due diligence across the organization to close on financing partnerships.
  • Work with other BasiGo departments (e.g engineering, operations) to understand objectives and recognize challenges to be addressed in designing the product pricing plan;
  • Manage deadlines and maintain accountability from cross-functional teams to ensure successful transaction closings;
  • Track, analyze and report project portfolio information and status, revenues/dues collected, cost of goods and transaction costs, and other key metrics. Prepare financial analyses of product variances;
  • Manage customer outstanding requirements and issues with the PAYD service and transactions including but not limited to billing and payment, minimum utilization, break of lease terms, and issues identified by the customer with the Pay-As-You-Drive service.
  • Ensure complete customer and asset information is provided to the engineering and operations departments to enable correct representation across BasiGo systems
  • Regularly identify, measure, monitor and advise the Executive Team on how to control the overall levels of risks in the PAYD lease portfolio and structure for the Rwanda Market
  • Support the broader Executive Team in critical cross-functional priorities such as fundraising, financial planning and analysis & business development;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Our ideal candidate would have:

  • Education & Experience:
    • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Law or related fields.
    • At least 5 years experience working with vehicle asset finance or project finance for energy/productive use related capital projects.
    • Experience with leading and closing transactions, with experience in emerging markets and working with DFIs and local financing institutions highly preferred
    • Strong communication and analytical skills.
    • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills.
    • Experience performing financial modeling and the understanding of financial concepts
    • Experience in change management, focusing on new ways of work, challenging existing thinking and finding more effective ways of operating while focusing on corporate and customer goals
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.
