BasiGo is an early stage E-Mobility start-up working to create the future of clean, electric, and digitally-powered public transport in sub-Saharan Africa. BasiGo provides Bus Operators with a cost effective electric alternative to existing diesel buses, along with reliable charging and maintenance services in support of their bus operations. BasiGo Rwanda is looking for an experienced automotive specialist to lead the E-Bus service and general operations that will ensure provision of high quality service, maintenance, and repair of BasiGo’s electric buses and charging stations. This position requires an experienced and innovative leader who is able to deliver exceptional service experience for our Electric Buses, ensuring the Buses are available with the highest uptime.

Our Ideal Candidate would have:

• Qualifications and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a minimum of 5 years senior management experience in the public transport sector.
  • 5+ years of managerial experience in fleet operations, automotive, or related fields, with proven ability to optimize maintenance operations and service delivery.
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to build, manage, and motivate teams.
  • Technical understanding of electric vehicles and vehicle performance systems is a plus.
  • Experience developing efficient and scalable processes to meet business objectives.
  • Basic understanding of finance and accounting to monitor costs and improve operational performance.
  • Strong communication skills to present insights, support decision-making, and engage with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in business productivity software, ERP systems, and operational tools.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, early-stage technology company or start-up environment.
  • Familiarity with the East African market and its unique challenges in the mobility sector.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Build and lead an operational team responsible for delivering Pay-As-You-Drive services, focusing on fleet maintenance and customer satisfaction.
• Develop, implement and continuously improve Standard Operating Procedures for Vehicle Servicing, Maintenance and Driver Management.
• Align operating standards to meet both regulatory and investor compliance requirements that’ll also include reports on the implementation of road safety initiatives and plans.
• Develop and implement a driver training program focused on electric vehicle operation and safety while tracking key driver performance metrics aimed at improving vehicle efficiency.
• Oversee and streamline tracking/reporting on vehicle servicing, repairs, and preventive maintenance schedules to maximize fleet uptime.
• Primary liaison with OEMs to ensure seamless E-Bus service and warranty management

Leadership and Strategy:

• Serve as a key member of BasiGo Rwanda’s leadership team, contributing to strategic objectives and decision-making to align operations with business goals.
• Ensure that BasiGo’s fleet services align with the company’s goals of becoming the largest and most reliable supplier of electric commercial vehicles in Africa.

Fleet Operations:

• Manage and optimize vehicle service operations to ensure the highest uptime and reliability for BasiGo customers. This includes overseeing service personnel, spare parts inventory, and workshop operations.
• Develop and implement systems and procedures that ensure BasiGo products are recognized in the market as reliable, with the best-in-class customer service for any unexpected issues.
• Establish a customer service and emergency roadside response system to provide exceptional support and build customer trust.
• Real-time monitoring of vehicle performance and utilization, using data insights to continuously improve operational efficiency and reliability.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

• Drive innovation in fleet operations by introducing and enhancing processes and best practices for service delivery and operational excellence.
• Work cross-functionally with engineering and customer teams to identify and implement improvements to vehicles and service models.
• Leverage data and feedback to refine maintenance protocols, ensuring BasiGo continues to lead the market in electric fleet solutions.

Process and Performance Optimization:

• Create and monitor systems to improve operational efficiency, supporting BasiGo’s goal of becoming the first profitable fleet EV solution in Africa.
• Work closely with finance teams to monitor operating costs, optimize budgets, and maintain alignment with business profitability targets.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth integration of fleet services into broader business objectives and strategies.

Safety, Compliance, and Culture:

• Foster a culture of safety, reliability, and continuous improvement within fleet operations.
• Ensure compliance with local regulatory standards and contribute to environmental sustainability goals.
• Manage and maintain relationships with local service providers and suppliers critical to delivering exceptional fleet services.
