About the Role
The Financial Innovation Consultant will work as part of CPI’s Capital Mobilization team in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), which designs and supports innovative financial vehicles that unlock investment for climate solutions.
This role will primarily contribute to the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (the Lab), an investor-led, public-private initiative housed within Capital Mobilization. The Lab identifies, designs, and pilots transformative financial mechanisms to mobilize private capital for climate action. Since its creation, the Lab has launched over 87 instruments that have collectively mobilized more than USD 4.4 billion toward climate outcomes across emerging markets.
The consultant will play a central role in the design, structuring, and investor readiness of early-stage financial instruments supported by CPI. This includes capital stack design, financial modeling, market sounding, and the integration of impact and gender considerations into investment strategies. The position provides an opportunity to contribute directly to CPI’s mission of driving systemic capital mobilization for sustainable development across Latin America.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The consultant will support CPI’s Capital Mobilization program the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance in the following areas:
- Vehicle Design & Structuring: Refine the design, capital stack, and financial flows of innovative investment vehicles. Support the definition of governance, risk allocation, and incentive mechanisms for blended finance instruments.
- Market Sounding: Conduct targeted consultations with public and private investors, financial intermediaries, and sector stakeholders. Validate key assumptions and value propositions of proposed instruments.
- Additionality and Market Analysis: Assess how proposed instruments address market gaps and barriers to investment. Map comparable initiatives and identify synergies or differentiating features.
- Financial Modeling and Analysis: Develop and refine fund-level and project-level financial models that capture expected returns, risks, and capital flows. Conduct scenario analyses and sensitivity testing to assess financial viability and investor attractiveness.
- Impact and Gender Strategy Development: Support the integration of impact, adaptation, and gender considerations into the instrument’s design and monitoring framework.
- Implementation and Investor Engagement Support: the preparation of materials for investor engagement, capital raising, and early-stage implementation. Provide analytical support for project documentation, due diligence, and business development activities.
