Better Place Forests is North America's first conservation memorial forest. Our mission is to inspire everyone to leave a meaningful legacy for the planet and the people they love. Our Forest Experience teams fill a void present in the modern world providing care and support throughout the end of life journey.
Forest Hosts combine a passion for helping customers with a drive to protect the natural environment. They are adept at sharing stories, listening, and helping prospective customers choose their own Memorial Tree. Additionally, they enjoy hands-on work and rolling up their sleeves for the physical stewardship of the forest. They understand the value of excellent customer service and have impeccable attention to detail to create one-of-a-kind experiences. Reporting to the General Manager, the Forest Host understands the value of excellent customer service and should have strong listening and empathy skills to create positive experiences.
A successful candidate is passionate about building our customer base. They have strong knowledge of their forest’s and customers’ needs, love working with people, and love being outside. They are a strong communicator, thrive in a fast-paced work environment, and are able to make heartfelt connections with others. They enjoy wearing multiple hats to support sales, marketing, memorials, and forest maintenance.

- Provide a world class in-person experience of our conservation memorial forests to customers and their visitors.
- Contribute to team sales and enhance overall productivity ultimately contributing to the growth and success of the organization.
- Support potentially grieving families in their time of need during Forest Memorials and visits to the forest.
You will
- Deliver an exceptional experience for customers in the forest from the moment they arrive, using genuine kindness, curiosity and professionalism.
- Be aware of the impact of grief on communication, and support a diverse set of customers, experiencing a myriad of emotions.
- Assist in the preparation and facilitation of Forest Memorials, greet guests, help prepare and place ashes at Memorial Trees, and install Memorial Markers.
- Host and guide potential customer forest visits, help families choose their tree, and work with internal tools to document and meet administrative and legal requirements.
- Educate customers on Better Place Forests’ products and services by effectively communicating the benefits and options available for purchasing a tree and memorializing loved ones within the forest.
- Assist forest team in performing regular forest health checks and participate in annual audits of tree inventory.
- Assist forest team with forest groundskeeping (maintaining safe trails, prepping memorial trees for ceremonies, etc.) and cleaning and maintaining facilities (including but not limited to the Welcome Tent, restrooms), etc.
- Work with the team to mitigate safety hazards and uphold Better Place Forests safety guidelines that ensure a safe environment for our staff, visitors, and the forest.
- Clean, maintain, and operate the Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle, portable electrical systems, and other hand tools as required.
- Work an irregular schedule, varying in days and hours, averaging from 10-30 hours per week during our peak season. This is a seasonal position.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to fulfill various responsibilities as assigned by the company, contributing to the overall success of team objectives and organizational goals.
You are
- Passionate about customer experience and a desire to want to help others with engaging face to face interactions.
- Comfortable speaking about death and dying, able to be sensitive to people with chronic illness and/or at the end of their life. Note: Training will be provided.
- Interested in outdoor preservation and conservation.
- Enthusiastic about working outside; you like to camp, hike, and explore nature.
- You enjoy and are comfortable working in remote areas.
- Familiar with the gear and embrace the opportunity to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
- Able to work autonomously and remotely with distributed teams.
- Growth-oriented and solution-focused.
- Successful in a dynamic environment and comfortable with changing priorities and directives.
- Comfortable holding space and communicating with people of other backgrounds (race, religion/faith, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc.)
- Comfortable with handling the cremated remains of humans and pets.
- Accommodating. We support our customers seven days a week. This position requires flexibility and working all weekends during the Season of May - October, unless on vacation.
- Able to sustain prolonged standing, bending, stooping, twisting, and lifting products or supplies weighing up to 45 pounds.
- Tech-savvy and comfortable using multiple pieces of software.
- Able to accommodate in forest transportation by driving a Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle and adhering to our safety guidelines. Valid Driver's Licence required.
You have
- Worked in a customer-facing environment (sales experience preferred but not required).
- Excellent oral, written, cross-functional, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience providing customers with excellent service and addressing a variety of needs.
- Comfort with public speaking that enables you to command the attention of large or small groups.
- Willingness to learn skills and techniques for working with grieving individuals and families in complex emotional and familial situations.
- A desire to work in an outdoor environment with various weather conditions, working in natural resources in conservation or construction is a plus.
