Job Overview:
The Lead Facilities Engineer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, operation, and optimization of all facilities systems and equipment. This role will manage the engineering team, ensuring that all building infrastructure, such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and safety systems, are running efficiently and in compliance with regulations. The Lead Facilities Engineer will also work closely with management to develop strategies for improving operational efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing safety and sustainability initiatives.

The Lead Facilities Engineer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, operation, and optimization of all facilities systems and equipment. This role will manage the engineering team, ensuring that all building infrastructure, such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and safety systems, are running efficiently and in compliance with regulations. The Lead Facilities Engineer will also work closely with management to develop strategies for improving operational efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing safety and sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of engineers, technicians, and contractors, ensuring tasks are completed on time and within budget.
- Maintenance & Repairs: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life safety systems.
- Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to maximize the longevity of equipment and reduce downtime.
- Project Management: Plan, coordinate, and execute facility upgrades, renovations, and construction projects, ensuring timelines, budgets, and safety standards are met.
- Energy Management: Monitor and optimize energy usage, focusing on sustainability initiatives and reducing the facility's carbon footprint.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all facilities are compliant with local, state, and federal regulations, including safety, environmental, and building codes.
- Vendor Management: Collaborate with vendors and service providers to negotiate contracts, oversee work, and ensure high standards of performance.
- Budgeting & Cost Control: Manage the facilities budget, track expenses, and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Emergency Response: Lead the facilities team in emergency preparedness and response, ensuring all systems are in place for fire safety, power outages, and other potential emergencies.
- Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, inspections, and compliance certifications. Provide regular reports to management on the status of facilities operations.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.
- Experience: 7+ years of experience in facilities engineering or management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Certifications: Certification in Facilities Management (CFM), LEED, or related credentials are preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Proficient in building management systems (BMS), HVAC, and electrical systems.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with staff, contractors, and management.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Availability for on-call responsibilities in case of facility emergencies.
- Physical ability to inspect systems and facilities, including climbing ladders or working in confined spaces as needed.
