(BOB) is a Delaware Public Benefit Corporation on a mission to solve the climate impact of cattle by working with farmers and food companies to commercialize and rapidly scale the production and use of our proprietary, algae-based livestock feed ingredient. Originally launched in the heart of Silicon Valley, the company has since established operations on the Big Island of Hawai'i and San Diego. The Facilities & Operations Specialist plays an important role in providing general labor support, and constructing system subassemblies and controls for BOB’s San Diego facilities and shipment to its other locations. Specifically, applicants for this role must be skilled in troubleshooting, and maintenance of various equipment types and able to solve equipment failures for various functional groups. A fair amount of work with constructing and maintaining Aquaculture systems built from PVC components, as well as assistance with shipping and packing of our finished products(cattle feed supplements) will be required. This is a position requiring a diverse set of mechanical and organizational skills and provides some on the job training for development of the skills required.

Specific responsibilities of this role include:

  • General Operations & Facilities Support (Primary role) Assist the SD Team with infrastructure additions and improvements across BOB’s San Diego facilities:
  • Facility Maintenance and Improvements: air supply systems, mechanical systems, electronic systems(DC and Equipment), seawater supply/recirculation/filtration systems, research & production room improvements, etc
  • Fabrication, assembly, and kitting of parts for aspects of BOB’s production infrastructure, for local and remote locations(no travel required)General construction (wood/plastic/metal project fabrication, power tools, CNC parts fabrication, assemblies, racks, etc)
  • System build-outs, some prototyping and design revisions
  • General maintenance of existing equipment, basic motors and low voltage
  • Running local errands in the company truck
  • Provide logistical support for inbound and outbound shipments of routine items shipped to/from BOB’s San Diego Operations
  • Assist with R&D experimental tasks on occasion

Processing & Distribution Operations (secondary role)

  • Maintenance & engineering support for processing equipment and systems, including:
  • Hammer mill
  • Ribbon mixer
  • Conveyor systems
  • Exhaust & dust collection systems
  • Automated packaging systems
  • Assist the Processing Team with milling, blending, packaging, and QC activities

Other Requirements for this role are as follows (Required)

  • Highly skilled with installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of equipment and components
  • Skilled in the use of construction tools and able to build to planning documents
  • Low voltage wiring and electro mechanical sensor troubleshooting, reading electrical schematics
  • Must have a current California driver's license with a clean record and willing to drive the company truck as needed
  • Ability or willingness to learn to operate automated processing equipment and forklifts
  • General math skills required for performing duties
  • Ability to work with and around chemicals such as bleach and alcohol, following all safety guidelines.
  • Must be able to lift heavy boxes, drum and other objects as part normal processing operations (~50 lbs)

Prefered Skills

  • Willing to learn AutoCAD and CNC softwares desired but not required
  • Willing to learn and use various computer systems (for example: Excel, Google docs, Airtable, etc) Can work in coverall suits for long periods of time (2-4 hours at a time)
  • Able to work in hot and cold environments with seasonal changes
  • Able to work in a full-face respirator for long periods (2-4 hours at a time)
  • Respirator and all replacement cartridges, filters and parts provided by BOB
  • OSHA approved medical exam and respirator fit testing provided by BOB

Working Schedule

  • Daily work schedule has some flexibility but during typical hours (8 hours between the hours of 7am-5pm) Monday through Friday, some overtime hours on occasion
  • Reliable transportation to office locations, both located in Mira Mesa

  • Competitive compensation dependent on level of experience
