As a Senior Data Protection Platform Operations Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in securing and shaping the architecture of bp’s enterprise data platforms. You’ll bring deep technical expertise across security, infrastructure, and operations, contributing to the delivery of robust, compliant, and resilient systems. Your responsibilities will span platform architecture, cloud integration, cybersecurity, and operational excellence—supporting initiatives that drive large-scale automation, modernization, and digital transformation.

What You’ll Deliver
- Contribute to the design and development of enterprise technology architecture and secure data platform frameworks.
- Implement and maintain end-to-end security across unified data platforms to ensure compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
- Support the performance, availability, and scalability of enterprise systems through operational best practices.
- Assist in modernization efforts by integrating secure data platforms with broader enterprise IT systems.
- Design and deploy automated solutions for security monitoring, vulnerability assessments, and identity management.
- Apply DevOps principles, CI/CD practices, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) for consistent, automated deployments.
- Support disaster recovery strategies and high-availability planning for mission-critical platforms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure platform solutions meet evolving business needs.
- Provide insights and recommendations on platform investments, security posture, and operational efficiency.
- Partner with senior engineers to shape long-term technical roadmaps focused on scalability and operational maturity.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Core Technical Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in technology, engineering, or a related field.
- proven experience in enterprise technology, cybersecurity, or platform engineering within large-scale environments.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps workflows, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools like AWS CDK or Azure Bicep.
- Working knowledge of ITIL, Agile methodologies, and enterprise governance frameworks.
- Proficiency with big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, and Flink.
- Experience with multi-cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and data solutions like BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, and Databricks.
- Strong programming and scripting skills in SQL, Python, or Scala, with practical data platform engineering experience.
- Understanding of data modeling, warehousing principles, and distributed system architecture.
Key Competencies
- Practical experience in platforms like Azure, AWS, Databricks, and Palantir.
- Knowledge of data ingestion pipelines, governance standards, and secure data visualization practices.
- Experience operating and optimizing large-scale, multi-cloud data platforms.
- Familiarity with performance tuning, indexing strategies, and distributed query optimization.
- Exposure to both real-time and batch data streaming systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven ability to operate in global, compliance-driven environments with strong security and risk management frameworks.
- Experience applying AI/ML techniques to automate and optimize data engineering workflows.
