As a Data Protection Platform Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in supporting the development, integration, and security of data platforms that power bp’s enterprise applications. You’ll work alongside engineers and architects to ensure high performance, resilience, and compliance across bp’s cloud and data infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity to deepen your platform engineering skills while contributing to impactful, real-world solutions.

What You’ll Do
- Support configuration, integration, and maintenance of enterprise-grade data platforms.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipeline implementation and adopt Infrastructure-as-Code to drive efficiency and consistency.
- Assist in monitoring and enhancing platform performance, availability, and reliability.
- Collaborate on fundamental security tasks including access control, monitoring, and remediation.
- Help deliver data pipelines and platform features across multi-cloud environments.
- Contribute to documentation, testing processes, and overall platform workflow improvements.
- Ensure platforms meet enterprise data compliance, governance, and security standards.
What You’ll Bring
Technical Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a technology-related field—or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 2–4 years in IT, data engineering, or platform operations roles.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks (e.g., Terraform, Azure Bicep, AWS CDK).
- Basic scripting or automation skills using Python, Java, or Scala.
- Exposure to cloud data tools and frameworks like Apache Airflow, Spark, or Kafka.
- Understanding of data lakes, data modeling, SQL/NoSQL databases, and cloud-native architectures.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work within structured engineering processes.
Essential Skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure, AWS, Databricks, and Palantir platforms.
- Understanding of data ingestion, transformation, and pipeline development workflows.
- Familiarity with security fundamentals and data governance best practices.
- Awareness of data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
- Exposure to distributed systems and experience with real-time or batch processing.
- A learning mindset and adaptability to new technologies in platform and data engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in global, highly regulated environments, with a focus on compliance and risk management.
- Exposure to AI/ML-powered data engineering workflows, leveraging automation to streamline data operations.
