ROLE SYNOPSIS
The Reservoir Management Specialists Unit supports all bp regions with expert subsurface support. Within the Unit there are Reservoir Engineers who focus on building and using simulation models to support region decisions on major projects, infill wells, reservoir management and forecasting.
The role is for a WH based Senior Reservoir Simulation Engineer with a focus on Hydraulic Fracturing and Fluids (HFF) modelling. The Reservoir Simulation Engineer in the HFF squad will apply specialist skills and standard methodologies to HFF modelling. The HFF squad is crucial to BP’s portfolio.
The work is global and will enable the successful candidate to gain exposure to new basins, reservoirs, regions and increase their personal network within bp.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Reservoir Engineering-Related
- Lead in building, updating and using reservoir simulation models. Coaching others in simulation modelling.
- Review and ensure readiness of ISD/RPP inputs at the start of a modelling effort.
- Maintain a customer serving approach.
- Support asset teams on reservoir simulation of conventional and unconventional reservoirs, including building, running and evaluating outputs of reservoir simulation models.
- Progress BP’s Development Optimization theme by improving our ability to integrate fracture models with reservoir performance prediction tools such as Nexus.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate as necessary new reservoir engineering technologies related to hydraulic fracturing.
- Incorporate awareness of competitors and consortia/joint industry projects' into BP’s hydraulic fracturing-related reservoir strategy development.
- Work with contractors and internal specialists to plan, prepare, and deliver technology projects and field trials.
Project-Related
- Understand and keep the business context and geological realities in mind throughout the modelling process.
- Understand region needs and translate those needs into building the most appropriate tools.
- Lead model framing and fitness sessions as well as assist in technical assurance of simulation models.
- Work efficiently as part of a multidisciplinary team in various technical support and R&D projects.
- Understand clients/assets needs and communicate results and recommendations in a way that is simple, direct, and easy to understand.
- HSSE focus and ability to influence compliance standards for Safety and Operational Risks.
Education: BS, MS or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering Petroleum Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, or equivalent.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- 10 years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience with conventional and unconventional oil & gas reservoirs (sand, tight sand and/or shale).
- Skillful reservoir simulation competency level, including deep knowledge of the inputs, outputs, benefits and limitations of reservoir simulation software.
- Experience with unconventional reservoir simulation software such as Nexus, Eclipse or GEM.
- Familiar with field development planning and optimization strategies in conventional and unconventional reservoirs as well as with uncertainty analysis.
- Skillful communication and influencing skills.
- Track record of sharing findings and building capability in others.
- Able to work closely with geologists, geophysicists, Petro physicists, reservoir engineers and hydraulic fracturing specialists in Subsurface and in other parts of the business.
- Able to integrate rock and fluid information, classical reservoir engineering analysis and outputs from hydraulic fracture simulation results in the construction of numerical reservoir simulation and analytical models to perform well, sector and/or field scale development optimization studies.
- Understand region needs and translate those needs into building the most appropriate tools.
- Maintain a customer serving approach.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
- Ability to prioritize work in a high activity environment.
- Experience with TDRM, fast RTA tools and KAPPA.
- Demonstrated planning, organizational, and communication skills.
- A sound understanding of classical reservoir engineering evaluation methods that may include DCA, RTA, PTA and others.
- Experience of using simulation models to support decisions.
- Awareness level in geology and petrophysics.
- Stakeholder management experience.
