Job Description:
In Supply, Trading & Shipping (ST&S), we play a central role in bp’s strategy—creating value for bp and our shareholders by integrating across our oil, gas, and lower carbon value chains. We connect energy producers, suppliers, markets, and customers to keep energy flowing today.
An exciting opportunity is currently available for a Structurer to join the ST&S Structuring team and provide structuring capability to the commercial teams within ST&S by:
Working proactively with senior stakeholders, traders, originators, and business functions to analyse and develop value-adding structures
Helping to build capability in energy asset valuation, infrastructure projects, and exotic structured transactions
Acting as a key resource for Origination, Trading, and senior decision-makers—supporting the structuring of deals and helping to quantify embedded optionality, risk/reward profiles, and relevant value drivers
In this role, you will support the Refined Products and Trading (RPT) business—covering the Crude, Distillates, Light Ends, and Biogas benches—and report directly to the Lead Structurer.
You Will Be Empowered and Accountable To:
Build and maintain trust-based relationships across commercial teams
Apply sound knowledge of industry-standard financial and derivative valuation methods
Assess the strengths, limitations, and practical applications of valuation models
Design and enhance valuation models and techniques
Communicate results assuredly to traders, originators, and analysts—actively influencing the structure and management of proposed deals to maximise business value
Engage with internal and external stakeholders to identify, assess, and quantify both market and non-market risks, proposing hedging strategies and other mitigations where appropriate
Essential experience and job requirements
Degree-level qualification in Mathematical Sciences, Economics, Finance, or other highly numerate subjects
Relevant experience in trading, structuring, risk, banking, or a quantitative graduate/postgraduate background
Familiarity with one or more energy or carbon markets (e.g. Oil, Biofuels, European Gas & Power, Global LNG, Carbon Offsets), including Renewables
Deep understanding of commodity value chains and the key drivers of price levels, spreads, and non-linear product pricing
Advanced ability to model complex financial and derivative structures
Experience modelling large infrastructure and project-finance joint ventures
Practical programming experience in an object-oriented language, with Python preferred
Ability to clearly communicate the impact of price changes (level, spreads, dynamics), valuation assumptions, and hedging strategies on deal value
Ability to prioritise conflicting demands and guide others in doing the same
Comfort with constructively challenging fixed assumptions
Desirable criteria & qualifications
Experience in commodity (Oil, Bio-fuels, Gas & Power and Global LNG) or Carbon markets preferably in a commercial role
Experience in running exposure and valuation of Oil, Carbon offsets, natural gas and power physical assets, and structured transactions, such as pipelines, storage, power plants, and exotic options.
Postgraduate qualification in a finance or quantitative area or CFA designation will be a plus
