Our projects team is now building worldclass capability in India as a new hub of Production and Operations (P&O) Projects India supporting both local and international projects.

Role Synopsis: The Senior Electrical Engineer will join the Production & Operations (P&O) Projects India organisation in the engineering and quality team to provide deep Electrical engineering expertise, oversight, judgment and support to projects.

The role is based at the Pune office but will require significant contractor facing work at major engineering contractor office locations in both India and possibly ex-India.

What you will deliver

  • Lead a project electrical engineering expertise to deliver safe design of cost effective, Quality and competitive Projects.

  • Lead, oversee and performance manage the Project electrical engineering team and Engineering Contractor(s) to deliver electrical engineering scopes, including:

    • Provide technical oversight, review, guidance and approval of electrical design engineering contractor deliverables.

    • Provide requirements for electrical equipment specification in requisitions/datasheets and selection as well as engineering package technical content.

    • Review and recommend technical bid analysis for electrical equipment and systems.

    • Deliver technical decisions of requests for exceptions/deviations to specifications or standards.

    • Lead technical input and oversight to electrical suppliers performance and delivery,

    • Determine risks to project delivery and ensure adequate risk mitigation plans are in place

    • Work with engineering contractor(s) to verify they are performing required activities in line with project schedules, and assist bp’s Engineering Manager in contract performance management

    • Ensure that Engineering Contractor(s) apply bp’s Engineering Practices and industry standards in engineering designs o Assure quality and consistency in electrical equipment delivery on projects

    • Lead and decide on Vendor Inspection and Test Plans, documents and drawings

    • Accountable for electrical package preparation of factory acceptance test (FAT) and site acceptance test (SAT) plans

    • Record and share relevant lessons

    • Lead resolution of complex electrical technical challenges.

    • Lead the strategy and delivery of Electrical HAZOP

  • Lead other engineers in the electrical subject area engineering team to deliver electrical scope through mentoring, coaching and peer reviews.

  • Coach earlier career engineers to aid in their technical and professional development.

  • Collaborate with other disciplines, construction, commissioning and operations teams for electrical design.

What you will need to be successful

Must have educational qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

Preferred education/certifications:

  • Chartered Engineer or Registered Professional Engineer

Minimum years of relevant experience:

  • Min of 15 years in oil and gas/petrochemical/ refining/ chemical or equivalent, with minimum five (5) years' experience of Electrical Engineering leadership work in Major capital projects.

Total years of experience:

  • 15+ Years

Must have experiences/skills (To be hired with):

  • Strong technical knowledge and experience of electrical engineering in Projects.

  • Experience as competency assessed lead engineer in client or contractor organisation

  • Practical working knowledge of governing codes, industry standards (API, IEC, ISA, ATEX, IEEE, BS, IOGP), local regulations relevant to electrical engineering.

  • Experience with a variety of voltage systems, from 120V to 13.8kV

  • Project experience of switchboards, transformers, motors, cable sizing.

  • Working knowledge of electrical equipment design, specification, analysis including engineering calculations.

  • Experience of design and implementation of Electrical power generation.

  • Experience of design and implementation of electrical distribution systems.

  • Deep subject area expertise with good track record of multi discipline integration.

  • Experience taking a discipline leadership role in EPC environment on major Projects.

  • Experience of procurement processes and delivery of electrical equipment packages

  • Pragmatic decision maker, willing to challenge and ensure engineering value is delivered.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the project team, Contractors and projects leadership.

Good to have experiences/skills (Can be trained for – learning/on-the-job):

  • Experienced in electrical systems design and maintenance, with a focus on transformers, power distribution, and emergency/back-up power equipment

  • Experience of design and implementation of power management systems (PMS) and electrical data monitoring and control systems (EDMCS).

  • Experience of working with remote team and collaborative approach to delivery

  • Leading engineering in different contracting models (lump sum; lump sum conversion).

  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn from others and work with minimum direction.

  • Site construction & commissioning experience

% travel requirements : Up to 50% to Engineering Contractor (s) and supplier offices.
