Job Description:

The Occupational Health Advisor (OHA) will report to the Malaysia Hub Business Manager. You will lead all health and industrial hygiene (IH) matters across bp Malaysia.

You will collaborate with Group Health, Regional IH, HSSE, MAF partners, Country Communications, Site Managers at the Port Klang Plant, Crisis & Continuity Management teams, PC&C, health and IH vendors, and local health authorities. You will also collaborate closely with the Regional Health Manager and India-Malaysia health lead on matters related to bp’s medical policies,

processes, and strategies.

You will provide health and IH support across all bp Malaysia entities, including Finance, Technology, Customer and Products, Legal, bp Pulse and the Port Klang Plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Compliance

    • Lead the implementation of bp’s Group Standards for occupational health across Malaysia.

    • Ensure alignment with local regulations, bp’s Operating Management System (OMS), and the Office Safety Framework (OSF).

    • Monitor compliance and identify areas for improvement.

  • Health Risk Management

    • Provide experienced advice on leading health and IH risks, including ergonomics, travel health, wellbeing, fatigue, mental health, and medical emergency response.

    • Develop and implement country - and site-specific health mitigation protocols aligned with local laws and bp standards.

  • Strategic Support

    • Support HR/PC&C, Legal, Procurement, HSSE, and leadership teams with health-related technical input.

    • Collaborate with the Regional Health Team and India-Malaysia Health hub to develop and enhance health programs aligned with global and local strategies.

    • Formulate and deliver a country health plan that addresses identified risks and meets bp’s expectations.

  • Program Development & Oversight

    • Design and handle risk-based occupational health programs, including health surveillance, pandemic response, and risk communication.

    • Develop and deliver training, procedures, and policies in collaboration with Occupational Physicians and IH guides.

    • Lead internal health audits and drive gap closure initiatives.

  • Vendor & Partner Management

    • Be a great partner and contracts with third-party health service providers.

    • Act as the primary contact for local and global bp health vendors.

    • Provide oversight and leadership on key health projects and initiatives.

  • Operational Support

    • Support fitness-for-work assessments and health risk management programs (e.g., alcohol & drug testing, fatigue, infection control, ergonomic assessments).

    • Provide medical policy guidance to local and expatriate staff, including pre-assignment checks and global health updates.

    • Ensure compliance with regulatory and bp requirements, including medical confidentiality and record management.

  • Health Promotion & Engagement

    • Lead health promotion initiatives based on risk profiles and emerging health threats (e.g., pandemic preparedness, dengue, Japanese encephalitis).

    • Implement and monitor office ergonomics and fatigue risk mitigation programs.

    • Support disability and case management, including return-to-work planning.

  • Plant Health Oversight

    • Oversee OH and IH implementation at the Port Klang Plant.

    • Provide ongoing technical advice to support daily operations and continuous improvement.

Key Requirements

  • Qualified Occupational Health professional i.e., nurse or physician, holds or working towards recognized qualification in occupational health (e.g., certification / diploma/ degree)

  • Has at least five years of professional experience working in the field of occupational health in the industry.

  • Licensed to practice occupational health in the region -as/if required.
    Membership of a technical or professional body that has confirmed individual has reached a level of capability within a technical or professional field (usually but not necessarily obtained through examinations) or Formal certification that they can undertake specialist work or processes

  • Strong understanding of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 1994, Factories and Machinery Act, and other relevant local regulations.
