Job Description:

Located at bp's Whiting Refinery in Whiting, Indiana, the Fleet Manager is responsible for all aspects of the Whiting Refinery’s vehicle fleet, including acquisition, maintenance, DOT driver management, and ensuring compliance with regulations. They are the central point of contact for all vehicle-related operations, ensuring the fleet runs safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.

The Fleet Manager needs strong leadership, communication, and technical skills, as well as a deep understanding of the trucking/transportation industry and its regulations.

Key Accountabilities

Procurement:

  • Selecting and acquiring vehicles and mobile equipment through Wheels to purchase or lease, based on company needs and budget.
  • Maintain the list of vehicle upfitting equipment.

Registration & Insurance:

  • Ensuring all vehicles are properly emission tested, registered, licensed, and insured.
  • IFTA, IRP, HAZMAT, UCR, DOT and MOC numbers.
  • DOT driver files.
  • 2290 filing.

Vehicle Tracking & Monitoring:

  • Using telematics to track vehicle location and performance.
  • Maintain driving parameters and metrics.
  • Monitoring driver performance and behavior, providing feedback, and addressing any issues that may arise.

Cost Control:

  • Monitoring expenses and implementing strategies to reduce costs.
  • Maintain cost center assignments
  • Fuel Card management

Vehicle Disposal:

  • Determining the optimal time to dispose of vehicles and managing the sale or trade-in process.

Maintenance Scheduling:

  • Developing and implementing preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and ensure vehicle safety.
  • Maintain mileage reports.

Compliance:

  • Ensuring the fleet aligns with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensuring drivers follow hours-of-service regulations, Safety and Driving Policy guidelines, Fatigue, Minimum Vehicle Specifications and other company policies.

Communication:

  • Maintaining effective communication with drivers, staff, and other partners such as Wheels and First Advantage.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Strong leadership, communication, and technical skills.
  • Deep understanding of the trucking/transportation industry and its regulations.
