Let me tell you about the role
bp aims to reach net zero by 2050 or sooner for Scope 1 and 2 emissions within bp’s operational control. Over the last decade, methane emissions have emerged as an increasingly important focus area for society, industry, and external stakeholders. The case for gas in a low emissions world is inherently linked to the ability to manage methane.
This role is key to bp meeting and delivering operational carbon excellence . Addressing global challenges, it requires working closely with other businesses and functions, our non-operated joint ventures, as well as key external parties.
The Carbon Advisor (Methane) will be preferentially a process/chemical engineer with experience in the Oil &Gas Industry, who can use sound technical knowledge and analytical capabilities across a whole range of activities that supports our deliverables against internal and external expectations.
What you will deliver
Specific role activities currently envisaged are shown below but with methane and flare activity in constant change delivery will need to flex accordingly:
- Support bp’s measurement efforts and support delivery of solutions, where applicable, for specific, material emission sources.
- Technical review of new or emerging quantification and abatement technologies.
- Support activities related to data automation, performance tracking and insights, providing technical or process support to address queries and emission specific bespoke calculations.
- Support the assessment and technical understanding with relevant new businesses as well as non-upstream activity.
- Provide technical support to bp’s abatement agenda including review of best practices, mitigation of specific sources and development of supporting charts and modelling.
- Provide direct line support on technical queries, for example on abatement and measurement suitability and technology.
- Identify and summarise most relevant scientific papers to draw out emerging knowledge or risks to bp and partners.
- Support data provision and analysis for relevant external methane initiatives.
- Support quarterly data review acting as focal point for the team but working closely with others with focus on risk and opportunity identification and storyboarding.
Must have educational qualifications:
- BA/BSc degree (or equivalent) in Process/Chemical Engineering
- 5 years+ experience in the Oil &Gas Industry with proven operational understanding
Preferred education/certifications:
- Member of the professional institution relevant to degree, a Chartered Chemical Engineer, or similar, or working towards one of these.
Minimum years of relevant experience:
- Relevant Experience of 5+ years
Total years of experience:
- 3-7 Years
Must have experiences/skills (To be hired with):
- A good understanding of Oil &Gas operations.
- Excellent engagement, communication and integration skills, able to deploy different approaches to influence across multiple levels across the organization.
- Technical expertise in process/chemical engineering, with a desire to work with methane and flaring management.
- Excellent analytical skills, able to review large volume of data and draw insights.
Good to have experiences/skills :
- Ability to communicate complex, technical material in a simple and concise manner.
- Ability to integrate delivery across multi-disciplinary teams and across internal teams.
- Experience in building successful relationships with internal stakeholders.
