Job Description:
The key responsibility of the job includes but not limited to dip, sample and operate all valves during and
after the run down. Compile all relevant documents related to the receipt of a slug. This includes tank farm operations, updating of the tank status board as to which tanks receive which products and supplies the road and rail gantry.
The Pipeline operator’s role exists to comply fully with BP ‘s HSSE (health, safety, security & environment) policies, standards, procedures and practices, more specifically to the relevant S&H Task Procedures, as are required during the course of receipt, storage & dispatch of bulk fuel & bulk fuel additive. The task procedures are derived from / contained in the Terminal Operating Manual (TOM) &
also include maintenance & product quality processes. In addition to personal safety, it is imperative the incumbent consistently adheres to process safety guidelines as it applies to each task.

Key Accountabilities
Ensure that the pre and post tank dips are verified, sampling is taken, and valves are closed and opened during operation
Ensure opening and closing meter readings is taken for bulk lines meters for reconciliation purposes
Ensure that the suction valve including all other valves which can affect the contents of the tank during the delivery are sealed or locked
Monitor the filling or run down of the slug
Handling queries related to the slug run down and tank farm operations
Take post delivery dips and samples upon completion of the delivery
Complete the following documentation : Dips sheets, Quality control register and Pipeline communication register
Calculating and advising the storage and Handling manager the losses and gains from each slug and updating the losses and gains spreadsheet
Adhere and comply with the site rules, obligations and duties imposed by all revant HSES aspects of his task
Being the only person responsible for the updating of tank status board at the rail office
Open and closing of tank farm inlet and outlet valves
To do correct calculations and ensures that tanks do not receive and supply at the same time.
Ensuring that the Tanks protective systems ( High and low level alarms are functional at all times and report any malfunctioning
Receive BP Diesel and ULP 95 additives into the appropriate tanks
Dip the tanks for stock Management as and when required
Walk the site daily as part of operator rounds and report any deviations
Monitor site operations from control room including but not limited to tank levels, alarms and product quality
Draw and package monthly water samples for external analysis.
Sample and release results for Paraffin for every tanker load.
Educational Background
Minimum Matric or equivelent qualification
2 to 3 years demonstrated ability in Operations in the Oil and gas industry.
