Boston Metal is commercializing cutting edge extractive metallurgy technology that will revolutionize primary metals production, while decreasing cost and lowering environmental impact.

We are seeking a skilled Melting Field Engineer with a strong background in metallurgy to join our team!

This candidate will work onsite with vendors to ensure the highest standards of manufacturing processes, quality and efficiency are maintained. This role will be critical in bridging the gap between our development teams and production with our external manufacturing partners. This collaboration will ensure our metals meet stringent quality standards as well as knowledge transfer between our external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with vendors to develop, evaluate and implement manufacturing processes
  • Conduct regular onsite vendor visits to monitor and audit
  • Provide technical support to vendors to improve capabilities and quality
  • Collaborate with vendors to develop and implement corrective actions for quality issues
  • Generate reports on manufacturing performance, including yield, efficiency and defect rates
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure timely and successful project completion
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes, reduce costs and improve quality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role, preferably with a focus on metallurgy
  • Experience with quality, SP&C, process controls
  • Proven experience working with vendors and managing onsite manufacturing activities
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external partners
  • Ability to travel ~75%

You will be working in a small team environment where teamwork and good relationships with other team members is critical. We operate pilot plants and labs and many of our staff members are required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and you should be prepared to do so as well when necessary.
