Position Overview:
We're looking for a driven and resourceful Director of Field Operations to lead Bright Harbor’s on-the-ground growth efforts in disaster-affected areas, with a focus on expanding brand presence and driving community engagement. As a dynamic strategist and executor, you’ll serve as both an operational leader and marketer, ensuring Bright Harbor becomes the trusted solution for recovery.

This role is ideal for someone with deep experience in high-growth tech environments who thrives on rapid expansion, operational precision, and market-driven growth strategies. You will establish Bright Harbor’s presence, manage end-to-end field operations, and spearhead community engagement and marketing initiatives across multiple locations. You’ll recruit and lead a team of Community Ambassadors, develop strategic partnerships, and ensure our services reach those who need them most.

This role is based in Austin, TX but requires extensive planned and last minute travel. You'll be the first person from our team, and often the first from any organization, on the ground in disaster areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Disaster Zone Deployment: Serve as Bright Harbor’s first point of contact in disaster-affected areas, quickly establishing an on-the-ground presence and coordinating early-stage operations to deliver immediate support to our clients and their communities.

  • Team Recruitment & Leadership: Recruit, train, and lead a team of temporary Community Ambassadors who will drive local engagement and support efforts. Provide daily direction and resources to ensure high-quality, effective outreach and assistance. Coach the best of these community ambassadors into a team of regional response leads.

  • Strategic Partnership Development: Build and maintain strong partnerships with local governments, nonprofits, and businesses to expand Bright Harbor’s reach and impact. Leverage these relationships to increase brand visibility and facilitate resource-sharing for impacted communities.

  • Community Marketing & Engagement: Design and execute a localized, data-driven marketing strategy that drives awareness and engagement. Utilize community events, targeted offline campaigns, and partnerships to position Bright Harbor as a trusted recovery resource.

  • Operational Oversight & Optimization: Oversee all field operations, ensuring effective delivery of services and resources. Continuously refine processes to increase efficiency, scalability, and responsiveness to community needs.

  • Feedback Loop with Product Team: Act as the voice of the field for Bright Harbor’s product team, providing direct feedback and actionable insights from on-the-ground interactions to drive continuous improvement in our platform and service offerings.

  • Marketing Content, Local PR & Feedback Loop with Marketing Team: You will be Bright Harbor's representative on the ground and act as a voice to the public, local media and on social media. You will gather first person photo, video, insights and other content and manage the team's social media accounts.

  • Playbook Development & Standardization: Develop a comprehensive operations playbook to support consistent, efficient deployment across various locations. Standardize processes to ensure high-quality, adaptable service delivery that meets the unique challenges of each disaster area.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive Ground Operations or Market Launch Experience: 8+ years in high-growth, fast-paced environments, ideally with a background in market launches, field operations, or startup expansion. Proven ability to establish on-the-ground presence and drive growth in new or challenging locations.

  • Leadership and Team Development Skills: Strong experience in recruiting, training, and leading temporary field teams. Ability to motivate and manage teams in dynamic environments, with the potential for developing high performers into regional leads.

  • Strategic Partnership Building: Skilled in building and maintaining partnerships across public and private sectors. Demonstrated success in working with local governments, nonprofits, and businesses to enhance brand presence and drive impact.

  • Community Marketing and Engagement Expertise: Experience in creating and executing localized, data-driven marketing strategies. Background in grassroots or community-based marketing, with a focus on events, offline campaigns, and positioning the brand as a trusted local resource.

  • Operational Excellence and Scalability: Highly skilled in managing and optimizing field operations, with a focus on scalability and process improvement to ensure efficient, responsive service delivery.

  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Strong analytical mindset, with experience in gathering and interpreting field data to adapt strategies and optimize performance. Skilled at using insights to shape both operational tactics and marketing strategies.

  • Effective Communication and Public Relations: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to represent the organization in public and media settings. Experience in generating content for social media, public updates, and media engagement is a plus.

  • Problem Solver and Quick Decision Maker: Comfortable in unstructured settings, able to make quick, strategic decisions in high-pressure situations. Skilled at troubleshooting and developing creative solutions to on-the-ground challenges.

  • High-Growth Tech Background (Preferred): Experience in a high-growth tech or tech-enabled service environment is highly valued. Familiarity with digital tools for field operations, customer engagement, or logistics is a plus.

  • Adaptable and Resilient: Willing and able to handle extensive, often last-minute travel, with a proven ability to adapt to diverse, fast-changing environments. Displays flexibility and resilience in handling the various challenges of being in disaster-affected areas.

  • Passionate about Community Resilience: You are deeply motivated to help communities recover and rebuild after disasters.
