About the Role
The TechOps Engineer is Capella’s SRE team. TechOps safeguards the reliability, availability, and security of mission systems by enforcing zero-trust principles, automating secure infrastructure operations, and continuously monitoring and alerting on these systems.
TechOps leverages our support structure to triage and resolve various requests across a variety of services. Consistency, reliability, and quality are essential to what we do:
- We balance 24/7 support and on-call responsibilities by distributing our team remotely, working in overlapping time zones, and rotating through on-call weeks
- We use root cause analysis to help us get to the true source of technical issues, and we help facilitate long-term solutions to prevent those issues from recurring again
- We design, build, and maintain the appropriate monitoring and alerting platforms (dashboards, reporting scripts) to ensure we are monitoring our vital systems and associated key performance metrics
Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience with REST APIs and cloud-based data flow and management using technologies such as Amazon Web Services, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Unix/Linux systems.
- Familiarity with process and code management tools like Jira, Confluence, and GitLab.
- You're eager to continue learning and expanding your skill set. We’re committed to supporting your professional development and growing talent from within.
- You may have an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physical/Earth Sciences—or you may have taken a different path, such as completing a bootcamp or coding accelerator. We value diverse experiences and would love to hear about yours.
- You're comfortable participating in a periodic 24/7 on-call rotation. Here’s how it works: team members work standard business hours for their time zone and rotate into one week of on-call support. For a four-person team, this would mean one week of 24/7 on-call duty every fourth week (with escalation support provided).
- You approach challenges calmly and thoughtfully, while maintaining a strong sense of priority and attention to detail. You're also motivated to improve processes and documentation along the way.
- You enjoy working across teams and can explain technical concepts clearly and simply. You keep internal stakeholders in the loop by proactively sharing updates on issues and requests.
- You’re naturally inquisitive and eager to dive into our systems and technologies.
Bonus if you bring:
- Experience working with geospatial data or remotely sensed imagery
- Familiarity with the satellite or space industry
