About the Role
Capella Space is seeking a Test Engineer to join the Development Verification Test Engineering team in San Francisco, CA. As part of the Space Systems organization, the DVT team is responsible for the lifecycle of test engineering of spacecraft hardware design, including supporting ground test infrastructure. From initial design, verification and validation, qualification, to delivery to production, DVT test engineers collaborate cross-functionally with the electrical, mechanical, RF, software, and sensors design teams to test and qualify all spacecraft hardware to functional, performance and reliability requirements. This position provides growth opportunities for either a dynamic or a specialized role depending on the interest and qualifications of the candidate.
We are hiring multiple engineers across various levels. Experience and skills will determine level and related compensation.
Responsibilities:
- Own the verification and debug of spacecraft hardware (avionics, RF, mechanical) through all phases of spacecraft design, verification and validation, and qualification.
- Define plans and procedures to ensure robust test coverage for complex electrical or mechanical systems.
- Own the development and build of test fixtures and test beds to support test.
- Execute bring-up and test of electrical or mechanical subsystems.
- Execute test campaigns in lab and simulated (e.g., thermal or TVAC) environments.
- Support design changes to spacecraft hardware to improve performance and improve testability.
- Mentor and train engineers, technicians, and contract manufacturers on test practices, plans, and procedures.
- Vendor management (e.g., PCB assembly, COTS parts or assemblies).
- Engineering documentation (e.g., test procedures, drawings, bills of materials) control.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in a similar role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer engineer, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proficiency in test methods and test execution, including authoring and executing test plans and procedures.
- Proficiency with hardware-in-the-loop test principles and methods for electrical or mechanical systems.
- Proficiency with hands-on hardware testing of electrical or mechanical components, subsystems, or systems.
- Ability to contribute in highly integrated environments with high amounts of interaction between complex hardware and software systems.
- Proficiency in design or test of 1 or more of the following areas: analog electronics, digital electronics, RF electronics, Radar systems, or mechanical actuators.
- Strong documentation and communication skills, with an emphasis on reproducibility and rigor.
- To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Capella Employees must be a U.S. citizen, lawful U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State and/or the U.S. Department of Commerce, as applicable. Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience testing aerospace or other high-reliability, mission- or safety-critical hardware systems.
- Knowledge of continuous test or integration systems or automated test execution methods.
- Knowledge of Design for Test principles, with experience applying these principles in 1 or more projects.
- Knowledge of data analysis and visualization.
Compensation
The annual salary range for this role as it is posted is $110,000 – $168,223. The final job level and annual salary will be determined based on the education, qualification, knowledge, skills, ability, and experience of the final candidate(s), specific office location and calibrated against relevant market data and internal team equity.
