Finance & Procurement Manager

Description

Who we are…
CERT Systems Inc (CERT) is on a mission to transform the way the world's most important chemicals are made. Our breakthrough electrochemical route to convert captured CO2 into valuable fuels and chemical feedstocks means that we can help the planet avoid over 500 million tonnes of emissions by 2040.
Who YOU are…
You are a highly analytical, proactive financial professional who thrives in a dynamic environment. You love numbers, but you love the story and control behind them even more. You bridge the gap between high-level financial strategy, and day-to-day transactional excellence, specifically purchasing, bookkeeping and reconciliation. You possess exceptional writing skills, allowing you to translate complex financial data into clear reports, budget narratives, and grant reporting.
We are actively recruiting for this role, which is a new position. We are currently open to either a fractional or full-time hire for this position.
The successful candidate will:
Purchasing
  • Own the full purchasing lifecycle - from large equipment to specialized materials, to office supplies, you own it all.
  • Negotiate pricing and supply contracts with vendors, where appropriate.
  • Ensure precise tracking, coding, and optimization of procurement costs.
Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Proactively build, maintain, and optimize cash flow models to ensure the company’s liquidity aligns with scaling milestones.
  • Conduct deep-dive analysis into operational spend, variances, and financial performance to provide actionable insights to leadership.
  • Collaborate on the creation, tracking, and reporting of budgets for government grants and innovation funding.
General Accounting & Payroll
  • Run biweekly payroll, ensuring necessary financial reconciliations, benefits tracking, and tax allocations are seamlessly handled.
  • Oversee internal financial controls, manage month-end/year-end closing processes, and ensure strict compliance with accounting standards.
  • Execute rigorous bank, credit card, and vendor ledger reconciliations with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Support requests from external auditors.
Required skills:
  • 4+ years of experience in a Financial Controller, Senior Accountant, or Finance Manager role.
  • Advanced bookkeeping, financial reconciliation, and cash flow modelling capabilities.
  • A proven track record of spotting discrepancies early, optimizing processes, and taking initiative without waiting for direction.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. You must be able to write professional, structured financial summaries and grant budget documentation.
  • Deep familiarity with modern accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero), ERP systems, and advanced Excel skills. Experience with payroll processing platforms is a strong asset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation (or progress towards it) is highly preferred.
