Job Description
Position: Civil Project Engineer III
Location: Remote
Overview: As a Civil Project Engineer III, you will support all civil aspects of our utility-scale solar energy projects along side Senior Civil Engineer – new property evaluation, pre- construction design optimization, code compliance, and field issue resolution. This role is responsible for delivering high quality, cost efficient designs in support of our power plants.
Main Responsibilities:
- Support detailed layout design review for SRC’s development pipeline of solar energy projects. Evaluate project constraints, solar module, racking technologies, BOP (balance of plant) considerations, and solar resource data to deliver projects in compliance with SRC and jurisdictional standards, maximizing project value while working to minimize project risks and costs.
- Support Civil Project Engineer II in their effort of using performance modeling software and civil engineering tools to evaluate sites, designs, and the impact of varied terrain on the project energy yield assessments of the project.
- Interface with Sr. Civil Engineers and the project management and operations teams leading up to and through project commercial operations. Ensure timely and complete transfer of technical responsibilities.
- Support relationships with various equipment vendors, contractors, and third-party engineering firms alongside Civil Engineering Manager.
- Lead technical design reviews for Solar Plants and Substations including reviews of drawings, calculations, and reports.
- Conduct site visits to support site evaluation, suitability, and due diligence efforts.
- Provide cost effective solutions for our legacy projects currently under operation when issues arise. Work with and coordinate
- Work with site managers, contractors, and other engineering staff to solve civil issues identified in construction.
- Identify and execute value engineering opportunities.
- Communicates effectively and responsibly with vendors and partners.
- Prioritizes work in order to meet project goals including deadlines, cost targets and project schedules.
- Responsible for reviewing and maintaining project records.
- Works as a team player with effective written and oral communication skills.
- Represent the organization professionally with landowners, vendors, utilities, local officials, and other project stakeholders.
- Provide support to Business Development and EPC.
- Willing to travel frequently. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or related discipline). PE licensure is preferred
Experience:
- 8-10+ years of civil design experience. Solar power plant project experience is preferred, but not required.
- Strengths need to include hydrology interpretation, transportation, drainage components, flood mitigation processes, storm water drainage, erosion control design on large sites.
- Candidate must have experience managing project tasks, be budget conscious, and support multiple subcontractors at one time.
- Working knowledge of permitting agencies and multidisciplinary design teams is required. Supporting in-field project managers, construction managers and reviewing RFI’s and submittals will also be expected.
- Experience interpreting geotechnical reports citing soil conditions, full property surveys, wetland delineations, object and feature setbacks and other major critical civil features often found on complex sites.
