About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Project Development Manager with a strong focus on business
development and project origination to join our project team. This role is catalytic in developing
projects from concept to FID and in identifying and securing new carbon capture project
opportunities focused in the pulp and paper industry. You will work closely with cross-functional
teams (internal and external) to ensure projects are developed and executed on time, within
budget, and to the highest quality standards.

About the Company

CO280 is a leading developer of large carbon dioxide removal (CDR) projects with more than 10
megatons per year of CDR under development. CO280 develops, finances, owns and operates
projects that capture and sequester biogenic CO2 emissions from pulp and paper mills. The
resulting CDR credits are sold to corporate buyers in the voluntary carbon market. We call this
BioDAC.

Unlike many other carbon capture projects, CO280’s BioDAC projects are revenue generating
and profitable. Our projects transform the economics of the pulp and paper industry while
providing a pathway to pulp mill decarbonization. The key to our approach is creating powerful
partnerships to develop and execute BioDAC projects across a new value chain of partners
including pulp and paper companies, capture technology suppliers, EPCs, transport and storage
providers, CDR buyers, and project investors. We are a world-class team with deep climate
tech, clean tech, and energy project experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the full project development lifecycle for pulp and paper mill CCUS projects through our stage gated process from pre-feasibility studies, to front end engineering design, to final investment decision and beyond.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with project partners including pulp and paper companies, capture technology suppliers, transport and storage providers, and other industry partners.

  • Collaborate intensively with CO280 teammates across all business functions including project engineering, CDR sales and market development, and project finance.

  • Lead the preparation of presentations, proposals, project reports, RFIs, MOUs, Pre-FEED studies, and presentations to secure new project contracts or progress project stages; lead contracting at each stage of the process.

  • Proactively identify, prioritize, and pursue new carbon capture project opportunities in the pulp and paper industry; collaborate on strategic approach to project development for each scenario.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, schedules, and rigorous documentation processes - developing standardized systems and tracking for all.

  • Own and manage each project economic model through the various project development stage gates, including the identification of key economic model risks and development of methods for communicating economic results and use tools for sensitivity analysis in support of this critical project communication function.

  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks in the project development cycle, particularly timeline risks.

  • Evaluate and provide key input pertaining to the terms and conditions delineated in commercial agreements and contracts with partners, suppliers, and all counterparties in the value chain for each project throughout the contracting process.

  • Coordinate and lead multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, contractors, and external stakeholders.

  • Ensure projects comply with all relevant regulations, codes, and standards related to carbon capture technology and local development at each site.

  • Provide regular progress updates and reporting to senior management and cross functional teams, as well as lead external project communications to partners and stakeholders.

  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve project delivery processes and implement best practices, including gathering market intelligence and analysis of developments in capture technology, pulp and paper, decarbonization, and emerging trends.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of successfully identifying, securing, and delivering complex, multi-stakeholder projects

  • Demonstrated success in identifying and securing new carbon capture project opportunities.

  • Managed the full project lifecycle for complex industrial carbon capture projects, including feasibility studies, FEED, FID and beyond.

  • Developed and maintained comprehensive project plans, schedules, and budgets for decarbonization projects, proactively identifying and mitigating risks.

  • Coordinated and led multidisciplinary project teams, including external stakeholders, to execute pulp and paper decarbonization initiatives.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management, or a related technical field

  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in project management and/or business development, preferably in the carbon capture, renewable energy, or clean technology industries

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills

  • Strong CCUS technical understanding, including carbon capture technologies and CO2 transportation and storage

  • Proficient in project management software, such as Microsoft Project

  • PMP or other relevant project management certification is preferred

  • Willingness to travel to project sites and stakeholder meetings as needed
