Summary
The Director, Product Development (Clean Energy & Sustainable Infrastructure) leads the strategy, design, and deployment of CGC’s clean energy and building-focused sustainable infrastructure product portfolio. This includes on-site solar, distributed energy resources (DERs), community solar, building decarbonization, energy efficiency, electrification initiatives, and related financing or market-enabling tools.
This role oversees the full product lifecycle—from market discovery and concept development through pilot execution, launch, and continuous improvement—ensuring products are scalable, replicable, and aligned with CGC’s equity- and impact-driven mission. The Director sets the product vision, strategic direction, and development roadmap while leading cross-functional execution across internal teams and external partners. This role requires a senior leader with deep expertise in clean energy markets, building decarbonization solutions, solar deployment models, financing structures, and policy environments.
The Director reports to the Head of Product and leads product development efforts in collaboration with teams across Market Development, Engineering, Policy, Capital Deployment, and Operations.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Portfolio Leadership
- Lead the vision, strategy, and roadmap for CGC’s clean energy and building-focused sustainable infrastructure product portfolio.
- Identify and prioritize opportunities across on-site solar, distributed energy resources, community solar, building decarbonization, electrification, and energy efficiency programs.
- Translate market insights and stakeholder needs into product concepts, program structures, and scalable deployment models.
- Develop business cases, financial models, and go-to-market strategies for new products and program initiatives.
- Ensure products align with CGC’s design principles, including equity, additionality, scalability, and operational feasibility.
Product Design & Development
- Lead product design, including program structure, eligibility requirements, operational workflows, and economic models.
- Conduct customer discovery and stakeholder engagement with building owners, contractors, community organizations, financial partners, and implementation partners.
- Translate strategic concepts into practical, deployable program designs.
Pilot Development & Market Validation
- Oversee the design, coordination, and implementation of pilot programs to test and validate new products.
- Evaluate pilot performance through data analysis, stakeholder feedback, and market insights.
- Develop recommendations for refinement, scale, and broader market deployment.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Lead collaboration across engineering, policy, operations, communications, capital deployment, and finance teams to ensure successful implementation.
- Ensure operational readiness and partner alignment prior to product launch.
- Guide partner onboarding, training, and documentation to support program rollout.
Product Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor product performance, market developments, and policy changes.
- Identify operational bottlenecks, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Integrate lessons learned to refine products and support scalable deployment across markets.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree and 9+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
- Deep expertise in clean energy markets, distributed energy resources, building decarbonization, or solar deployment models.
- Strong understanding of clean energy economics, project finance structures, and relevant policy frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex product, program, or market development initiatives from concept to scale.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams and multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Strong analytical, strategic, and financial modeling capabilities.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and leadership skills.
- Ability to operate both strategically and in detailed execution environments.
Compensation and Benefits
- The salary range for the position is between $195,160 - $217,001 annually.
- The Director will be eligible for an annual bonus based on job and organizational performance.
