Clean energy development is poised to boom, but we urgently need to make sustainable finance more efficient to move as quickly as needed. The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) will make hundreds of billions of dollars of tax credits available to companies building facilities or producing clean power and materials. And for the first time, these credits are transferable – creating a new and powerful market mechanism to fund energy transition projects. The market for transferable tax credits needs new standards, more buyers, expanded financial products, and purpose-built software.


Crux exists to make sustainable finance more efficient and interconnected.


Our network and tools help developers, tax credit buyers, and financial institutions transact & manage transferable tax credits by streamlining price discovery, project diligence, transaction closing, and reporting.

Crux is founded by Alfred Johnson & Allen Kramer. Alfred and Allen previously co-founded and successfully sold their last company, Mobilize.


The Crux team is an incredible and multidisciplinary team of 15, and growing quickly to meet the needs of the market. The opportunity


Crux is growing rapidly! We are looking for a strategic, analytical self-starter to build our revenue operations function and help scale other aspects of our business. As a critical early team member, you’ll be a key partner across the organization, especially sales, marketing and product, to help shape the foundations of the business. Key responsibilities include sales process optimization, analytics/insights development and reporting, systems-building including owning CRM and other key tools, and more. This position reports to Jess Zhao, Head of Operations. This is a unique opportunity to be on the ground floor of a new market, and work with many different parts of the organization on high-impact initiatives that support Crux’s ecosystem of renewable energy developers, tax credit buyers, and financial institutions.


What you’ll do


  • Drive regular revenue reporting, forecasting and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Utilize data-driven insights to make recommendations on the highest-leverage sales and marketing activities.
  • Build and manage key operational systems and processes to optimize team efficiency, for example building automation to manage inbound leads.
  • Own and oversee implementation of critical sales and marketing tools, like Hubspot CRM and Google Analytics. Continually improve customer pipeline data structure and quality.
  • Drive critical cross-functional special projects as needed, including scoping out problems and developing detailed project plans to drive successful implementation
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to inform growth strategy, resource plans and key performance metrics.

Who you are


  • 4-6 years experience of experience in an analytical/operational role at a start-up, in revenue or sales operations at a high-growth tech company, or operational experience in management consulting
  • Action-oriented problem solver – you love proactively identifying and solving problems and naturally drive toward results. You have experience taking a structured approach to solving tough business problems.
  • Analytical and data-driven – you love working with all forms of data, and can quickly get up and running on a suite of different software systems, and data analytics and reporting tools.
  • Detail-oriented systems-builder – you are skilled at prioritizing the highest leverage activities and creating scalable systems to make it happen. You have experience building 0-1 with operational excellence.
  • Detail-oriented project manager – you love working with cross-functional partners to address complex challenges, while keeping the trains moving forward. You are a skilled communicator and translator.
  • Strategic thinker – you are adept at quickly understanding business context, and think strategically about how you can contribute to the company’s long-term goals while managing short-term tasks effectively. You’re skilled at adapting to a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Excited about building at the early stage, with a focus on flexibility, results ownership, and cross functional collaboration. Contribute to and help build team culture.
  • Experience in enterprise SaaS/workflow software, B2B marketplaces, fintech, energy/climate, or with Hubspot and SQL is a plus
