About Deep Sky
Deep Sky is on a mission to accelerate the world's transition to carbon removal by developing and operating direct air capture (DAC) facilities. Our state-of-the-art plant in Innisfail will play a crucial role in capturing CO₂ directly from the atmosphere, helping combat climate change on a global scale. Join us in this groundbreaking journey to achieve net-zero.
Job Overview
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join Deep Sky's Process Engineering Team focusing on the design, maintenance, and optimization of electrical power distribution, control systems, automation, and instrumentation at our commercial DAC facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial electrical systems, PLCs, and instrumentation, and will play a key role in our latest commercial carbon capture facility, Deep Sky One. If you have a passion for building robust systems, solving complex engineering challenges, working hands-on with the hardware, and are not afraid to fail, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rapidly develop electronics for Direct Air Carbon Capture reactors and supporting infrastructure including high power electronics, control systems and actuators, programmable logic controllers, reactor instrumentation, and harnessing.
  • Create and review electrical load lists, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) for various plant and facility designs.
  • Design, specify, and oversee installation of medium and low-voltage power distribution systems.
  • Perform load calculations, short circuit analysis, and arc flash studies.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot switchgear, MCCs, transformers, and backup generators.
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, drives, and controllers into automated processes.
  • Support continuous improvement projects involving control system upgrades.
  • Specify, calibrate, and maintain industrial instrumentation for temperature, pressure, flow, level, and other process variables.
  • Integrate instrumentation with control systems for process monitoring and optimization.
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with relevant codes (NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE) and safety regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments and support plant-wide electrical safety programs.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, avionics, hardware, robotics, physics or other related STEM discipline.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, Altium, EPLAN, or similar tools for schematics.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.

Skills and Experience for Success

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification.
  • Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Lead or support capital projects from concept to commissioning.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere.
  • Ability to assess risk and make design and development decisions without all available data.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical design, prototyping, integration, and testing.
  • Self-motivated, strong multi-tasking, organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Experience working effectively across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 70, NEC, and OSHA electrical safety standards.

Additional Requirements

  • Willing to work extended hours and weekends when needed.
  • Some travel may be required.
Why Join Deep Sky?
• Be part of a mission-driven team focused on fighting climate change.
• Work with cutting-edge technology in a dynamic and innovative environment.
• Competitive compensation and benefits package.
• Opportunities for growth and professional development.
