What you will do:

As the Manager of Mechanical Systems Engineering, you will lead the design and construction of advanced chemical processing systems. These systems will incorporate instrumentation, controls, plumbing, fluid power, heat transfer, and solids handling to support innovative electrochemical and metallurgical processes for clean iron production. In this player/coach role, you will both guide technical execution and mentor team members, while also taking ownership of the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with Senior leadership to set team goals, set priorities, and drive accountability to ensure project milestones and deliverables are met.
  • Act as subject matter expert on fluidic systems engineering, helping design, build and integrate state of the art skidded chemical processing systems
  • Work with mechanical drawings, P&ID’s, requirement documentation and project management to ensure smooth project execution and team alignment
  • Specify and source appropriate process equipment and instrumentation to meet system design and testing requirements including pumps, tanks, filtration and mixing equipment
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and innovation within the engineering team.
  • Effectively provide leadership and direction so that the team is focused on the organization's priorities.
  • Lead technicians and contract manufacturers on mechanical and electrical hardware builds
  • Act as a subject matter expert on design reviews for junior engineers
  • Bring chemical systems from concepts and test stations to fully functional integrated system prototypes
  • Utilize your knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to optimize system performance
  • Collaborate with team members with diverse backgrounds throughout Electra to define requirements for design of test infrastructure and commercial prototypes
  • Interface with vendors, supply chain team, and other 3rd parties as needed to identify manufacturers and solutions that meet the team’s needs
  • This position requires a strong commitment to workplace safety. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a consistent focus on safe practices, risk mitigation, and adherence to company safety standards as part of their day-to-day responsibilities.

What we need you to bring to the team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, or electrical engineering with 8+ years of industry experience in process design and chemical process scale-up, including system build and integration; Or, 6+ years with a master’s degree or 3+ years with a PhD (excluding internships, co-ops, and academic projects).
  • 3+ years of industry leadership experience
  • Demonstrated ability to design process systems using systems engineering tools: Wiring diagrams, P&IDs, CAD, mechanical drawings
  • Experience with electrical and chemical safety
  • Experience designing fluid power systems (pumps, valves, heat exchange equipment, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as needed
  • Receives objective based assignments and determines the resources needed to meet schedules and goals
  • Demonstrates an advanced understanding of business line and a growing understanding of the overall company and competitive environment
  • Ability to work on issues of diverse scope where the analysis of situations and or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors
  • Develops and manages operational initiatives to deliver tactical results
  • Ability to translate functional plans into operations processes and guide the team through execution
  • Proficiency with, or ability to quickly learn, Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint

What we want you to bring to the team:

  • Familiarity with both high voltage and low voltage electrical design
  • Experience working with electrochemical or hydrometallurgical processes
  • Experience in a pilot-plant or development environment
  • Experience in a dynamic startup environment

Compensation:

  • The anticipated starting pay range for this position is 135,000-$165,000 a year and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
