Design Engineer, EV Charging Stations
Electric Era Technologies
Company:
Electric Era was founded to electrify transportation by powering all of EV charging. Transitioning the global car refill supply chain to electricity will take decades of focused and intense work to solve the fundamental engineering challenges required to generate, store, transmit and distribute electricity for a global fleet of electric cars. Electric Era is actively building the technologies that make it possible to rapidly transition our car energy infrastructure to electricity, solving one of humanity's greatest challenges.
Role:
We are hiring a Design Engineer to own the coordination of Electric Era charging station development throughout America, including construction feasibility, site layout and design, site permitting, construction and electric utility service requests. This role is responsible for making sure that our charging stations are built and connected to the grid rapidly and affordably at scale.
This role is responsible for coordinating all mechanical, electrical and civil design work, leading utility and AHJ conversations and development, performing site assessments, and innovating upon our EV fast charging station site build processes. You will work with hardware design engineers and construction managers to solve real world constructibility challenges and will be part of the team building the machine that builds thousands of charging stations per year.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the mechanical, electrical and civil site design and development work required to construct charging stations, optimizing for the number of sites opened for public use.
- Perform front-end site design, risk assessments and initial cost estimating to accelerate station construction.
- Actively manage utility relationships for transformer upgrades and to obtain the best routing of grid power service.
- Lead jurisdictional development work and conversations to optimize site designs, approval timelines, and to obtain permits by reviewing plans for right-of-way, easements, flood zones, and setbacks
- Go on in-field site visits to perform due diligence work prior to station construction. Provide site reports and sketches as needed
- Work with hardware design engineers to address quality and design for constructibility (DFC) concerns to maximize quality and minimize field labor
- Project manage schedules, budgets, resource allocation, design vendors and solar vendors
- Review site related project documents to assess viability, cost considerations, and design options
Qualifications and Preferred Skills:
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience managing infrastructure related project development in EV charging installation, telecom, solar, or retail development with an engineering or construction management degree
- Fluency with 2D or 3D CAD programs and in reading schematics
- Proven full project ownership and delivery for complex and undefined design projects
- Strong personal and professional project portfolio demonstrating practical capability
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and hard driving attitude
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
