We are looking for a Staff Pipe Stress/Vessel Engineer to join our product engineering team. You will play an important role in the development of renewable hydrogen product plants at industrial scale. You will design our next generation of hydrogen plants and carry your design ideas from prototype and pilot scale testing into implementation in our product scale customer plants. You will work with the process, structural and mechanical design engineering team to manage design requirements, improve scope interfaces and produce piping designs which guide the cost of electrolytically generated hydrogen lower than the costs of fossil hydrogen.
You will be based in San Jose, CA and will work on a hybrid basis. You will report to the Director of Mechanical Design Engineering, Fluid Systems.
Responsibilities:

Analysis and computational pipe stress analysis on multiple piping systems in Caesar II (preferred) for hydrogen service

Markup piping diagrams and isometrics to give feedback to piping and structural designers

Specify guide, anchor, and support types, including identifying alternate materials or suppliers if lead times are longer then a project schedule allows

Review design work performed by others on the Process Design Team, including 3D design work in Revit/plant3D/CADWORX, to ensure every design maintains excellent quality and that pipe stress analysis results and requirements are incorporated

Produce bills of material for supports, guides, anchors, stops, flex joints, expansion joints, etc. for procurement

Perform Pressure vessel design using ASME Sec VIII, Div 1 and Div 2

Perform Finite Element Analysis of critical vessel junctions using FE Pipe /Nozzle Pro

Serve as Subject Matter Expert on pipe stress and pipe support design including ASME and ASTM codes

Review and approve final design documents for piping systems, including isometrics, shop drawings, material submittals, pipe support designs, etc.

Participate in onsite construction and commissioning activities by serving as the point of contact for technical questions and real-time issue resolution
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering

Minimum of 12+ years of experience in pipe stress engineering

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain within 6 months

Experience with ASME piping codes, ASME Sec VIII Div 1,DIV 2, ASTM piping standards, structural codes, and building and fire codes

Expert level knowledge of Caesar II, B31.3, Nozzle Pro and allowable nozzle loads

Hands-on knowledge designing pressure vessels per ASME Sec VIII Div 1

Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and Bluebeam

Prior experience with hydrogen service piping

Experience with slug flow , water hammer, flange leakage check and other dynamic analysis using CAESAR II

Electric Hydrogen has three compensation zones. All employees are assigned to a compensation zone depending on their work location. Remote employees will be assigned a compensation zone once their work location is determined. This can be discussed with your recruiter.
Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job-related skills, as well as relevant education or training and experience.
