About the Role

We are seeking a Portfolio Data Analyst who will play a critical role within Energize’s EDGE value creation team, which partners with the investment team and our portfolio companies to support value creation and risk mitigation initiatives. As part of the Finance & Operations pillar in EDGE, this role will focus on maintaining and strategically analyzing portfolio performance and customer data - building on a robust data foundation that enhances visibility into company performance, identifies risks early, and supports asset management decisions across the firm.

Reporting to the Senior Portfolio Finance Manager, the Portfolio Data Analyst will be responsible for collecting, validating, and analyzing financial and customer data from portfolio companies. This individual will maintain and enhance our portfolio reporting infrastructure (including Cobalt), support LP reporting requirements, and develop insights that inform portfolio health assessments. The role interfaces closely with the investment team, portfolio company accounting and finance leaders, and internal operations stakeholders to ensure high-quality, reliable data that drives performance monitoring and value creation efforts.

This role is ideal for someone with strong analytical skills, familiarity with three financial statements and financial modeling experience, a rigorous attention to detail, and a service-oriented mindset who enjoys rolling up their sleeves and building scalable processes in a fast-moving environment. This is a full-time position located in Chicago. Interested candidates must be based in Chicago or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

Financial & Operating Data Collection

  • Gather quarterly financial data from portfolio companies, interfacing directly with portfolio company accounting and finance leaders.
  • Conduct initial QA/QC to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to reporting standards.
  • Maintain and manage all portfolio financial and operating data within Cobalt, including setting up new reports and dashboards.

Analysis, Benchmarking & Reporting

  • Perform benchmarking analyses across portfolio companies to identify anomalies, risks, and performance trends.
  • Develop data packages and reporting materials for recurring portfolio health meetings.
  • Complete first-pass responses to LP reporting and data requests, partner with Finance/IR to refine and finalize outputs.
  • Support forecasting and analytical work that enhances portfolio-level insights.

Customer Data Collection & Insights

  • Collect customer data across the full portfolio, ensuring consistency, quality, and completeness.
  • Analyze customer trends, segmentation, retention and other commercial indicators.
  • Identify insights that inform commercialization strategies and build out of Energize’s customer network.

Value Creation

  • Support EDGE value creation projects, working with companies on finance and operations improvement initiatives
  • Work closely with the EDGE team to ensure data-driven insight flows into value creation and risk mitigation workstreams.
  • Collaborate with internal operations and technology partners to enhance reporting workflows and ensure data integrity across systems.


Skills and Preferred Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of relevant experience (consulting, FP&A, transaction advisory, investment banking, or similar).
  • Strong financial modeling skills and the ability to navigate the three financial statements.
  • Experience with forecasting and financial analysis; comfort working with incomplete or ambiguous data.
  • Strong data analytics capabilities, experience with Python, PowerBI and other analytics / visualization tools a plus.
  • Familiarity with portfolio reporting systems is a plus
  • Prior exposure to VC/PE environments is helpful but not required.

Location

When not travelling, our team works in office Monday through Thursday with the option to be remote on Friday’s. Our employees must reside within a commutable distance from our Chicago HQ (which is located in the Loop).

The base salary for this role is: $65,000-95,000.
This role is bonus eligible, commensurate with performance.
