Our successful intern is a self-motivated, highly accountable professional bringing diversity of thought, intellectual rigor, and humility to the team while collaborating with us on market deep dives, investment sprints, and other strategic initiatives.

This internship is a 10-week, paid position requiring full-time commitment (40 hours per week) in-person Monday through Thursday at our Chicago headquarters. Additionally, applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited MBA program with an intended 2027 graduation. The intended start date for the role is June 2026.

The MBA Associate Intern reports to a Senior Associate at Energize Capital.

Responsibilities

  • Help identify, analyze and win opportunities to invest in leading climate, energy and industrial technology early-stage businesses
  • Help respond to a high volume of introductions to prospective investment opportunities, including holding screening conversations with ventures team members and evaluating potential deals
  • Assist in due diligence process, including notetaking, managing references, product and technical due diligence, competitive landscape research, market sizing, and financial evaluation
  • Help investment team identify and track the most promising technologies and companies for potential investment
  • Support in the analysis of pipeline companies; prepare and refine investment theses; source, diligence, and close investments
  • Assist with regular LP updates on portfolio and firm progress
  • Support research for thought leadership content and presentations

Skills & Preferred Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for energy technology and entrepreneurship
  • Fundamental grasp of the broader climate and industrial markets, including mobility, manufacturing, decarbonization, and more
  • Desire and willingness to learn, give and take feedback and challenge conventional thinking
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable listening to, presenting, and disagreeing with different points of view.
  • Conviction without arrogance; humility without defeatism.
  • A great nose for emerging technology trends and businesses; a differentiated perspective on the energy and industrials verticals
  • Keen attention to detail; deliberate and focused on execution
  • Strong diligence skills; ability to quickly evaluate the key questions, risks or upside to an opportunity
  • Strong financial analysis skills; the ideal candidate will be able to dive quickly into a business plan or financial model, identify and judge key drivers or vulnerabilities
  • Strong business and personal judgment; self-motivated and highly productive
  • An outstanding work ethic with the ability to envision, prioritize and complete parallel projects without requiring much guidance in a fast-paced, fluid environment
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and enjoys being part of small, highly- accountable team
  • The ability to consistently come up with new ways to make us better

Preferred Prior Experience

  • Demonstrated interest in energy, technology and industrial verticals
  • Experience being a top performer in a highly ambitious academic or rigorous work environment
  • While we will consider various backgrounds, an individual with experience in investment banking, consulting, VC, or an operations role at an energy/technology company will be a strong fit for this role

Compensation & Perks

  • This is a paid, full-time (40 hours/week) internship. Compensation is competitive, with a total stipend of approximately $20,000 for the 10-week program, with potential discretionary bonus for exemplary performance
