Employer Description

Equatic, a pioneering environmental technology company, is on an ambitious journey to revolutionize how we approach carbon sequestration. At the heart of our innovation is the Equatic process, a cutting-edge technology designed to capture CO2 and transform it into valuable minerals, combating climate change and promoting ocean health while co-generating hydrogen. Our dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship drives our operations as we seek to make a tangible impact on global carbon levels through our scalable and efficient solutions.

As we expand our reach and refine our technologies, we seek passionate, skilled, and environmentally conscious individuals to join our team. Whether you’re an engineer, scientist, or environmental advocate, Equatic offers a unique opportunity to be part of a transformative movement toward a greener, more sustainable future. Join us in our mission to harness the power of the ocean to fight climate change and protect our planet for generations to come. If you’re ready to contribute to meaningful environmental change and work on challenging, rewarding projects, Equatic is your next destination. Let’s innovate, collaborate, and make a difference together.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role located in Torrance, CA and San Pedro, CA (Los Angeles County). As a Mechanical Engineer at Equatic, you will be at the forefront of designing world-leading electrochemical climate technology. You will be working on a diverse team of chemical, electrochemical, process, mechanical, and electrical engineers, among others, iterating on and optimizing next-generation climate hardware. You will be expected to own full assemblies, not just individual parts, and make critical decisions around tolerances, sealing, materials, manufacturability, and system integration. This is a fast-paced, build-heavy role where speed of iteration and practical engineering judgment matter. You will independently rapidly iterate on a great diversity of parts of various materials that all come together to remove carbon from the atmosphere and produce green hydrogen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the design of multi-component mechanical assemblies from concept through build and test.
  • Translate early prototypes into manufacturable systems with clear design intent.
  • Run tests on design under a range of conditions and report results to the broader team.
  • Iterate and refine this design through successive prototype stages, from proof-of-concept to design optimized for manufacturability.
  • Based on final design, prepare engineering documentation to be delivered to manufacturers for mass production.

Required Qualifications

  • BS Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 8+ years of experience designing and building parts and assemblies; component prototyping and iteration; and working with suppliers and manufacturers to execute
  • Proven experience of ownership of the entire design process from end-to-end
  • Experience designing both metal and polymer parts across a range of product realization methods
  • Knowledge of wide range of manufacturing and prototyping processes
  • CAD fluency; 3D-modeling experience and comfort with design tools (FEA, CFD)
  • Knowledge and understanding of materials and common alloys
  • Mastery of engineering fundamentals
  • Hands-on experience building or testing hardware
  • Maker, doer, proactive, comfortable with open-ended problems
  • Self-starter with the ability to perform independently, drive decisions, and handle ambiguity

Beneficial assets

  • MS Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience designing parts for chemical processes
  • Experience with power electronics
  • Experience with technology scale-up
  • Familiarity with electrochemical devices, such as electrolyzers or flow cells
  • Strong chemistry knowledge
  • Experience working in a startup environment
  • Excited about the idea of working outdoors and on the water
  • Passion for carbon management solutions

Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year

Application Question(s):

  • Will you now, or in the future, require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H-1B visa status)?
  • Have you owned the entire design process from end-to-end without heavy guidance or reliance on outside vendors?
