ESS is looking for a motivated and hard-working Senior Electrical Engineer for our Product engineering team, reporting to the Director of Engineering. This engineer is responsible for hardware development, reliability analysis, and testing for our line of iron flow battery products.

Key Responsibilities

The role includes electrical system engineering principles to the development of iron flow batteries through one or more of the following responsibilities:

  • Responsible for electrical system design and architecture inclusive of low voltage analog circuit design, grounding techniques, feedback and control theory, filtering, noise reduction techniques, EMI, and embedded controller design.
  • Perform detailed engineering analysis such as circuit power draw, voltage protection, over-current protection, thermal load, cycle life, and component level FMEAs
  • Prepare electrical designs and cost estimates covering new, repair, maintenance, and improvement of electric, electronic, and electro-mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues across product lines
  • Support the design, build and assembly of custom test fixtures for battery, electronics, and thermal/mechanical testing.
  • Create and maintain documentation packages for ESS products.
  • Provide regular updates to the engineering team members and management, and proactively drive issues to resolution.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate designs meet requirements.

What you bring to the table

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 6-8 years of industry experience in product development, with a strong preference for battery systems, energy storage or renewable energy experience.
  • Background in electronics development, fabrication, and assembly processes, and good analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience designing, using, and troubleshooting industrial controls and serial communication protocols.
  • Experience with designing for EMC/EMI concerns.
  • Foundational knowledge of embedded systems, high voltage isolation, and power conversion switching circuit designs.
  • An individual at this level should demonstrate the ability to lead small work groups or program teams.
  • Proven ability to work independently under high pressure and comfortable with working in a multifaceted hands-on environment.
  • Knowledge in use of standard electronics lab tools including AC/DC meters, Oscilloscopes, AC/DC power supplies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Technical writing skills: capable of creating required engineering documentation.
  • Knowledge of high voltage (> 400 volts) electrical power system design.
