Description

The Electrical Engineer will play a crucial role in the design, development, and maintenance of electrical systems for our Organic Rankine Cycle geothermal power plant facilities and gathering systems. Your expertise in electrical power and instrumentation will be essential in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our facilities.  The Electrical Engineer will participate in or lead multidiscipline teams to support early phase project development as well as brownfield project optimization efforts.  This role will be a key participant in systems completion planning and equipment facilities acceptance tests.  The Electrical Engineer will report to the Director of Surface Facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Execute electrical design and equipment specifications for Organic Rankine Cycle geothermal power plant facilities and gathering systems
  • Develop and be accountable for design deliverables, including control philosophy documents, instrument data sheets, cause & effect documentation, electrical equipment specifications (transformers, VFDs, motors, etc.), and engineering calculations
  • Engage and maintain relationships with major equipment suppliers to optimize facility design
  • Act as the primary technical lead during negotiations of major surface facility electrical equipment supply contracts
  • Lead and/or participate in Risk Assessments, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and Incident Investigations/Learning Teams
  • Provide direct and impartial feedback to ensure corporate and industry code compliance
  • Support Project Teams and Operations in the commissioning, performance testing, and start-up of new/modified facilities
  • Manage and interpret data and results from multiple projects
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate electrical systems with overall facility design
  • Conduct feasibility studies and evaluate new technologies for incorporation into facility projects
  • Assist in the development and implementation of maintenance strategies for electrical equipment
  • Provide technical support and guidance to Operations and Maintenance Departments
  • Stay up-to-date with industry advancements and emerging technologies in electrical power and renewable energy

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Instrument Engineering or another applicable discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in instrumentation and electrical systems design, installation, and maintenance in the refining, petrochemical, chemical process, or power generation industries
  • Experience with pipeline and gathering facility design
  • Ability to drive continuous safety and reliability improvements in equipment installations and work processes
  • Basic proficiency in the following areas:
    • Knowledge of industry codes and standards (i.e., IEEE, ISA, NFPA, NEC)
    • Instrumentation and measurement technology
    • Low voltage power distribution and controls
    • PLC maintenance and programming
    • Analyzers and sample systems
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings (P&ID, PFD, One-Lines, Three-Lines, etc.)
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel to various field locations and other company office locations
  • Preferred: Geothermal facilities experience; refinery facilities experience
  • Preferred: Expertise with a wide range of renewable energy types
  • Preferred: Trained in/experienced in process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, Agile methodologies)
  • Preferred: 5+ years of experience in technical areas related to facilities design, VFDs, motor specification, etc.
  • Preferred: 5+ years of experience in the Operating and/or Maintenance Departments
