Description

The Senior Tax Manager will be responsible for managing income tax compliance, ensuring accurate and timely federal, state, and local filings. Key responsibilities include preparing and reviewing tax provisions, cash tax forecasts, and estimated payments, as well as overseeing state sales tax reports and payments. The role also involves supporting investment and production tax credits, leading income tax audits, and developing defense strategies. Additionally, this position assists with tax planning, transfer pricing documentation, and monitoring tax legislation to assess business impacts. The ideal candidate will drive process improvements, manage federal and state tax credits, conduct tax research, and mentor Senior Analysts to support the company’s overall tax strategy. This position will report to the Controller.

Responsibilities

  • Manage income tax compliance, ensuring accurate and timely federal, state, and local filings
  • Prepare and review tax provisions, roll-forward schedules, cash tax forecasts, and estimated payments
  • Oversee state sales tax reports and payments, collaborating with other departments on tax-related matters
  • Support IRA investment initiatives and production tax credits
  • Lead income tax audits, assess exposures, develop defense strategies, and coordinate responses
  • Assist with tax planning, structural optimization, and transfer pricing documentation
  • Monitor tax legislation and communicate potential business impacts
  • Identify opportunities to enhance process efficiency and strengthen internal controls
  • Manage federal and state tax credits, including R&D, investment, and production tax credits
  • Conduct tax research to address business-related issues and ensure compliance
  • Mentor and develop Senior Analysts, providing guidance and professional support

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 7-9 years of experience in a public accounting firm or corporate tax department
  • Strong experience in corporate federal, state, and local income tax accounting and compliance
  • Proficiency in tax research, audit response preparation, and drafting tax memorandums/documents
  • Solid knowledge of federal and state tax laws, regulations, and tax accounting principles

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active CPA certification
  • Experience with federal and state tax consolidation and tax provision
  • Familiarity with Investment Tax Credits (ITC) and Production Tax Credits (PTC)

Location

Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular in-office presence at the Houston office will be required. Some travel is required for this position.
