Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer with experience in electrification and project management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in battery electrical system design and a desire to work hands-on with our products in a fast-paced R&D environment.
Candidates should have demonstrated the ability to learn quickly and work effectively, previous early-stage startup experience is a plus.
This job is based at Fleetzero’s Birmingham, AL, location.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical systems for energy storage products, ensuring compliance with IEC, DNV, and ABS codes and standards.
- Project Management of electrical projects, including vendor selection and management
- Conduct component sizing and selection, considering factors such as voltage ratings, current carrying capacity, thermal characteristics, and efficiency.
- Perform cable and conduit sizing and selection based on project requirements and electrical load calculations.
- Perform grounding studies and design grounding systems to meet safety and operational requirements.
- Develop and review comprehensive wiring diagrams, schematics, and electrical layouts using Solidworks Electrical, capturing system architecture, interconnections, and electrical equipment placement.
- Conduct short circuit analysis to evaluate the behavior of electrical systems under fault conditions and ensure appropriate protective measures are in place.
- Perform arc flash calculations to determine incident energy levels and develop appropriate safety protocols for personnel working on or near electrical equipment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate inverters and Li-ion batteries into electrical ship systems, ensuring seamless operation and optimal performance.
- Learn and stay up-to-date with electrical shipping regulations in global markets.
- Support the product development lifecycle, from concept to commercialization, by participating in design reviews, testing, and validation activities.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 2-7 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on energy storage, ships systems, battery R&D.
- PCB Design and prototyping experience, flex PCB a plus
- Harness Design and prototyping experience
- Proven expertise in creating accurate and detailed electrical diagrams and drawings using Solidworks Electrical and Altium.
- Familiarity with LV, MV, HVDC, grid tie inverters, Li-ion batteries, and their integration.
- Experience working hands on for prototype development (wiring, soldering, etc.)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
