Your Roles & Responsibilities
You’ll be working within our Flood Operations team to create and deploy real-time flood models across Australia and the United States to support flood events. You’ll monitor flood operations and advise emergency managers across government and critical infrastructure. You’ll help provide training and education to our customers about how to interpret flood intelligence results so that they can make better decisions, in real time. You’ll work with industry-standard technologies to build benchmarking models, but you’ll also be exposed to new cutting edge technologies. You’ll learn how to use python to accomplish complex tasks easily. You’ll learn SQL to allow you to access surface water records spanning hundreds of years, a dozen agencies, and two continents.
This will not be consulting work. There are no timesheets, and you’ll be continually learning and solving big challenges.
Your key responsibilities
- Developing hydraulic models
- Developing hydrology models
- Calibrating and validating hydrology and hydraulic models
- Generating validation and calibration reports
- Monitoring real-time model performance during flood events
Your Skills & Background
We would love for you to have
- Currently studying or have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering, or equivalent experience
- 0-1 years’ experience within the surface water, water resources, or flooding field or relevant practical placement or vacation experience
- An understanding and comprehension of hydrological and hydraulic investigations for urban and rural catchments
- Interest or experience in flood modelling
- Interest or skills in hydraulic and hydrological modelling software packages.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
- Willing to learn from other colleagues.
It’s not required, but would be great if you have
- Experience with QGIS and/or ArcGIS Pro / Online
- Experience with 2D modelling (e.g. HEC-RAS or TUFLOW)
- Experience with Python
