About the role
Halter is a US company that started in New Zealand, now managing over 200,000 cattle across hundreds of customers throughout New Zealand, Australia and the USA.
In the US, the market opportunity for Halter is vast and the need for a high-quality product is clear. Graziers, environmental groups and Government agencies are looking to virtual fencing to improve productivity and sustainability. Halter’s product brings a proven, world-leading solution to the market. We have significant demand for our product in the USA. Our first cohort of partner customers are thriving with Halter, and we are building up our team to bring Halter to graziers across the US.
Halter is the most transformative technology available in agriculture right now, and we are positively disrupting grazing. We’re looking for an exceptional leader to run our US operations. This is an opportunity to positively disrupt an industry, collaborating with experts to pioneer groundbreaking change. You will be guiding the local team for one of the world’s fastest-growing agritech companies, ensuring our customers are thriving with Halter and spearheading partnerships to enable future scale across the USA.
We are looking for a big thinker, who knows how to get stuff done. You will be a natural problem-solver, comfortable leading in a dynamic, high-energy environment where you and your team will be challenged on a daily basis. Our ideal person for this role is someone who is passionate about growing productivity and sustainability in agriculture in the USA. You will be obsessed with solving customer problems and will care about people above all else - our customers and our team, and will champion their interests across Halter. With support from the head office in New Zealand, you will take the lead on building out your team and creating a collaborative culture that allows people to thrive in a high-growth environment.
The role will be located in Denver, Colorado. Travel will be expected in this role.

What your day could look like

  • Leading: As the US manager, you will spend part of your days driving the success of the US team, generating the results and goals for your market, embedding a high performance culture and Halter values, and connecting with various teams in New Zealand.
  • Building and nurturing relationships with initial customers to understand their unique needs and journeys, ensuring their success through dedicated and personalized support.
  • Championing the needs of our US customer base across Halter. You will be the voice of our US customers and teams, ensuring US needs are prioritized in our product roadmaps, and considered in company planning.
  • Growth Initiatives: Developing and executing the growth plan for the USA, establishing Halter as the clear category leader for virtual fencing. This will include working with marketing and PR in the NZ head office, as well as external agencies, to generate awareness of Halter with our target market.
  • Advocating Halter’s Culture: This role is crucial for creating an inclusive and supportive culture, internally and with our customers. You will own responsibility for creating a culture in the US team that aligns to both our company’s culture, and the local culture in the US.
  • Networking: Connecting with others in the industry to build relationships and establish and maintain Halter’s brand.

Who are we looking for

  • Years of evidence of delivering value to the agriculture sector (cattle), with a deep commitment to helping ranchers and farmers succeed.
  • A strong communicator, with the ability to bridge in effectively to the New Zealand headquarters and overcome the barriers of a remote role (i.e. time zone, distance) to ensure the USA team is fully aligned with the Halter engine.
  • A proven track record of taking products or services into new markets, with the ability to scale from early product-market fit to mass-market success.
  • An empathetic and dependable leader, who can lead and nurture a team, navigate ambiguity, mobilise team members and lift their potential to solve unforeseen problems in a pragmatic way.
  • The ability to work effectively across functions and juggle multiple workstreams and priorities in tandem. Highly effective at context switching and delivering value in functional areas that you might not have first-hand experience working in.
  • A phenomenal attitude and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced working environment with a high degree of freedom.
  • Experience working with international companies and different cultures is advantageous.

Our Office First Approach (For Auckland Offices)
We do have flexible working hours and you can work from home when you need to but we encourage our team to be in the office as much as you can.
We have an office-first approach because we would like to keep the opportunity for teams to have spontaneous interactions which in turn has allowed our team at Halter to foster strong relationships. Stronger relationships make it easier to disagree, give feedback, do meaningful work and as a result, be higher performing as a team.
This is applicable mainly for our Auckland office-based roles rather than on-the-road roles in teams such as Customer Success or Business Development teams.
