You’ve seen world-class hardware developed. Now, join us to engineer world-class manufacturing at scale.
Mechanical engineering at Halter is not just about design; it's about ownership, impact, and survival in the harshest environments on earth. We have just released our best collar yet, and we are aggressively scaling up production to support farmers and ranchers globally. To deliver on this mission, we don't just need engineers we need owners who can define and deploy the next generation of highly automated, high-volume production lines.
This is your opportunity to step onto the front lines of Halter's growth, taking fundamental ownership of the mechanical systems that ensure every single collar we ship maintains flawless quality, longevity, and performance on the farm. If you thrive on being hands-on, defining the architecture of new systems, and seeing your projects scale from concept to global implementation, this is the obvious next step in your career.
About the Role: The Challenge of Scale
We are seeking a Mid-Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the entire lifecycle of our critical Production Engineering infrastructure. This is a fast-paced, hands-on development role where you will not be limited to iteration you will be encouraged to think from first principles to find the best, most scalable solutions for our globally scaling manufacturing process.
Your immediate impact will be focused on critical fixture and automation design, deployment, and scaling across our active production lines. This means full accountability for designing robust, semi-automated stations and machinery, integrating precision mechanisms, and driving their rapid implementation in partnership with Electrical, Firmware, and Quality teams.
You will also play a crucial role in expanding our supply chain resilience by leading the ownership of manufacturing tooling (including collaborative tool design with vendors and our Mechanical design team, tooling specification and sourcing, validation and qualification, Process capability studies, Tool acceptance trials (T1,T2…), scheduled preventative maintenance, and tool redundancy planning) with a focus on plastic injection molds across our world-class vendors applying your deep expertise in tool commissioning to maintain Halter’s uncompromising quality standards.
What Your Day Could Look Like
- (High Ownership & High Accountability) - Design and Deploy Production Architecture: Full scope ownership over the design, specification, and commissioning of new production fixtures, semi-automated stations, and specialized equipment. You are the mechanical expert driving the line forward.
- Scale and Standardize: Rapidly iterate and scale the deployment of key production fixtures (ICT, functional, calibration, EoL testing) across a growing number of active production lines worldwide.
- Drive Mechanical Execution: Own mechanical aspects of line bring-up, including integration, pneumatics, guarding, and ergonomics. You will be expected to produce production-ready CAD, comprehensive drawings with GD&T, and detailed documentation (BoMs, SOPs).
- Tooling Master: Own tooling and mould bring-up from FAT/SAT through to on-site installation, debug, and handover with clear SOPs, ensuring tooling reliability and serviceability (wear parts, PM schedules).
- The Go-To Expert: Travel approximately 25% of the time to lead fixture commissioning, line bring-ups, run-at-rates, and vendor support. When you travel, you own the project and ensure its success.
- Mission Connection: Spend time on the farm with our farmers and animals to directly observe the impact of your work and reinforce the critical link between production quality and the product's ultimate reliability and longevity.
Expertise We’re Looking For
- This role requires a Mid-Senior level engineer who combines high-volume production rigor with precision mechanical design.
What Success Looks Like
- 3+ years in mechanical design for manufacturing, high-precision test fixtures, special-purpose machinery, or automation. You execute rapid, robust, hands-on development
- Expertise in precision mechanisms, fixturing, tolerance stacks, pneumatics, clamps, and alignment. You know how to build reliability into the bones of a system
- Experience bringing up tooling at our injection moulding vendors. A strong understanding of DFM/DFA across plastics, sheet metal, and machined parts, with a focus on vendor collaboration.
- Hands-on debug, root-cause analysis, measurement systems, and reliability testing. You rigorously validate fixtures and cells (Gauge R&R, capability, cycle time, durability).
- Prior exposure to ICT or functional test fixtures, pogo-pin design, and basic station control (Rasberry Pi’s, Linux PCs) to collaborate seamlessly with firmware/electrical teams.
