About Halter
At Halter, we’re on a mission to enable farmers and graziers to run the most productive and sustainable operations. Our customers are using Halter to break free from the time-intensive constraints of conventional practices. Imagine watching 500 cattle stand up and walk calmly towards their next break? No quad bikes, no dogs, no fences. Just a group of cattle walking at their own pace. People say it looks like magic. Our customers are revolutionizing grazing with Halter. It's changing lives and transforming an industry. People join Halter to do meaningful work. By joining us you’ll be solving challenging problems within a talented team and a culture built for high performance. Our team out-think, out-work and out-care. We’re committed to delivering real change in the world - this isn’t easy, and in truth, we love that it’s hard.
We’re backed to deliver on a mission that matters by Tier 1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck and Icehouse ventures.

At Halter, we’re building more than software — we’re transforming the way the world farms. Our smart collars let farmers shift, monitor, and care for their cattle via deep integrations & insights. Behind it all is the Network Team, powering one of the world’s largest private IoT networks with 1 Million connected devices and counting.
We’re looking for a Senior Firmware Engineer to help our growth through multiple international markets this year, owning the RF and wireless communications firmware that keeps our collars connected in the field — primarily spanning 4G/5G (3GPP) & LoRa protocols.
What you will own in this role
Design, implement and deliver new features and performance improvements to our comms firmware stack, across cellular (4G/5G, 3GPP), LoRa, Wi-Fi/HaLow, Zigbee, and other RF protocols
Own comms firmware through its full lifecycle — from requirements and design through to mass deployment and in-field maintenance
Work at the edge of ultra-low power design, balancing radio performance, battery life, and reliability on resource-constrained hardware
Drive improvements to our quality and testing systems for RF/wireless firmware, including in-field upgrades and monitoring tooling
Work closely with the network, software, and other engineering teams to ship high-impact comms features quickly
Support and mentor other engineers through design conversations, code reviews, and generous context sharing
You’ll thrive in this role if you
Have designed and delivered complex embedded firmware for resource-constrained devices, ideally with hands-on experience in one or more of 4G/5G/3GPP, LoRa, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi HaLow, Zigbee, or other RF/wireless protocols
Love solving hard technical problems and delivering awesome features to customers
Are a strong team player who contributes to the team's performance and excels in giving and receiving feedback
Are comfortable working with low-level hardware, radio stacks, and resource-constrained systems
A degree in engineering (software, electronics, mechatronics) is nice to have, but not essential
This role also ensures that you have
Impact that matters: Your firmware keeps animals healthy and farms productive
Massive scale: Help build the comms backbone that will connect millions of animals
Culture that clicks: High-performing, office-first, mission-led team (with dogs hanging around the office)
Perks that support: Wellness benefits, paid parental leave, equity, and a growth budget
