Want to help change how the world is fed?
Uncommon began its journey as Higher Steaks and recently underwent a transformative rebranding. Our new brand and identity truly reflects our mission, values, and the positive global influence we aspire to achieve. We transform the global food system by making delicious and nutritious food – from animal cells and plants. We are pioneering the development of cultivated meat to solve some of the world’s growing challenges in health, sustainability and animal welfare.
We're a purpose, science and engineering-driven company dedicated to creating breakthrough technologies that will push the boundaries of what’s possible – delivering innovations that benefit people, the planet and animals.
Our brilliant team are experts in their respective fields, drawn from around the world. We’re passionate, curious, innovative and at the forefront of the ground-breaking work being done in this exciting and rapidly growing sector. Uncommon is a well-funded biotech company; we’ve experienced spectacular growth over the last few years and continue to accelerate every month.
We are growing rapidly again this year so this is a great time to join us and solve one of the most important challenges we face today!
The role
As we approach the launch and commercialisation of our cultivated meat products we are looking for a candidate with a sharp eye for detail, who can collate all the necessary information required for our regulatory portfolio. This is an opportunity to contribute towards Uncommon’s delivery of our key regulatory milestone: to submit our products for Regulatory approval in more than one geography (UK, and Singapore, US, EU).
Working in close support to the CSO, you will play a pivotal role in assisting our innovative research and development teams from a food safety perspective, to ensure that our process is fit for food production, and all relevant documentation is in place to facilitate dossier submission.
This role is predominantly based in our state-of-the-art facility in Cambridge, but we are open to hybrid working options.
What you’ll be doing:
- Together with the CSO, you will drive the application processes for the Novel Food dossier, coordinating information gathered from our multidisciplinary teams and preparing submission documents
- Working with the Health and Safety, Quality and Technical Leads, you will ensure compliance throughout the company, including bringing the teams up to date on food safety requirements (HACCP training offered)
- Collaborate with all teams to ensure all processes align with required standards, and together with the Quality team oversee HACCP portfolios.
- Writing risk assessments and other supporting documents for the regulatory portfolio including ensuring all raw material documents are identified and archived appropriately
- Sourcing and collating information for each section of the Regulatory application.
- Monitor industry trends and collaborate with key stakeholders, including our Regulatory Consultant, helping senior management establish and nurture external relationships with regulatory authorities.
- Assisting in managing and contributing to other team projects as needed.
What we think you need:
- Degree in food or life sciences, coupled with significant working experience with some administrative involvement (e.g. document writing, data collection)
- Track record of assembling documents or applications for assessment or approval in any sector
- Strong interest in regulatory affairs preferably with a working knowledge of regulations and regulatory processes.
- Understanding of relevant policies and guidance (e.g., Food Safety, Laboratory Safety, HACCP)
- Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
We’d love it if you also have:
- Previous experience in contributing to regulatory submissions
- Familiarity with Novel Food Regulations and cellular agriculture.
- Familiarity with medical devices or therapeutics regulations, if not from a food regulation background
- A PhD
- Familiarity working within a quality system.
- Basic understanding of cell biologics/cell therapeutics.
