England, UK
Posted on Mar 18, 2024
We're looking for a Cell Line Development Lead to join our awesome team.

You will lead our cell line development programme in London, generating and improving cell lines that are the foundation of our process for making cultivated fat at scale. Working alongside stem cell biologists, computational biologists and bioprocess engineers, you’ll play a huge role in shaping the future of food.

You will be the technical lead for our Cell Line Development team, responsible for isolating, engineering and validating new adipogenic cell lines. Leading a brilliant, hard-working team, your work will focus on developing and implementing automated workflows for mammalian stem cell engineering. The cell lines that you develop will be essential to our R&D and manufacturing process at Hoxton Farms.

You should have:

  • A PhD (or equivalent experience in industry) in molecular biology, synthetic biology, mammalian stem cell biology, or a related discipline
  • At least two years' experience working in mammalian cell line development and genome engineering, preferably in a commercial setting
  • Excellent knowledge of molecular biology, cell line engineering tools, molecular cloning and genetic construct design
  • Proficiency in genome editing using CRISPR/Cas9 and related technologies
  • Experience optimising transfections and transductions
  • Proven ability in managing projects and coordinating workflows involving cell line development and molecular biology
  • Willingness to spend at least half your time doing hands-on laboratory work including molecular biology and cell culture
  • Enthusiasm, curiosity and drive
  • A talent for teamwork and collaboration

Ideally you'll have experience in some, but not necessarily all, of the following areas:

  • High-throughput screening using image-based techniques and flow cytometry
  • Single-cell cloning and candidate selection from screening in adherent and suspension culture, incorporating high-throughput and automated liquid handling tools
  • Target validation including phenotypic and functional assays
  • Analysis of qPCR, NGS/WGS and RNAseq data (bulk and single-cell samples)
  • Understanding of GMP (or equivalent) regulations concerning cell line development
  • Mesenchymal stem/stromal cell culture and differentiation

The benefits:
