Posted on Sunday, May 26, 2024
We're looking for a Quality Control and Analytical Development Lead to join our awesome team.

You will build and own the quality control and analytical development functions at our pilot plant in London, taking responsibility for the safety and conformity of our entire production process – from biopsy to bacon. Working alongside an experienced team of food scientists, biologists and engineers, you’ll build a pioneering quality system for a brand new manufacturing paradigm. Every day you’ll play a critical role in bringing cultivated fat to market and shaping the future of food.

As our QC/AD Lead, your work will be essential for the success of our first regulatory submission and ongoing production process. In partnership with our regulatory, R&D and production teams, you will set the strategic direction for quality control at Hoxton Farms and build robust workflows to meet exacting standards. You will develop and run analytical assays and source new equipment and techniques. Managing a small team of analytical scientists, you’ll own the relationships between our in-house QC lab, external testing labs and satellite QC labs at manufacturing sites. You will be responsible for interpreting results and communicating them to key internal and external stakeholders.

In addition to your work on analytical development and quality control, you will work with our Facilities and Laboratories team to implement a world-class quality management system for ongoing quality assurance. As part of this system, you will write risk assessments, SOPs and food safety plans and manage the documentation of batch records, quality reports, CoAs and environmental monitoring activities. Your work will be essential for building safe, compliant, market-ready production facilities for cultivated fat – in London and beyond.

You should have:

  • A PhD in cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry or at least five years’ industry experience working in a GLP/GMP cell culture production environment
  • Prior experience in quality management, QC/QA or CMC for cell culture processes
  • Experience writing quality documentation and reports for regulated products and building HACCP plans
  • Detailed understanding of molecular biology and analytical chemistry assays (eg., ELISA, biochemical assays, mass spectrometry, microbiology)

Ideally you'll have experience in some, but not necessarily all, of the following areas:

  • Food manufacturing, food science and nutritional analysis
  • Handling external partnerships with CDMOs and analytical labs
  • Quality management systems to ISO 9001 standard including SOPs, COSHH and risk assessment

The benefits:

🏛️ Brand new lab and office in Old Street

🏡 Pension plan (matching up to 5% with a salary sacrifice scheme)

🏖️ 25 days' holiday + bank holidays
