Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Field Service Technician to assist our customers with the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of Infinitum’s IES Integrated Motor & Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) products. This role also involves performing in-house motor repairs at our Round Rock warehouse. The ideal candidate will be responsive to emergency support requests, capable of conducting on-site repairs, and occasionally performing preventive maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct on-site troubleshooting and testing of Infinitum’s integrated motor and VFD systems.
• Execute motor repairs and document processes through our Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) system at the Round Rock warehouse.
• Safely troubleshoot components, considering the power and high-voltage aspects of the equipment.
• Utilize schematics and other documentation to identify and resolve issues.
• Operate multimeters and other diagnostic tools effectively.
• Document troubleshooting steps and outcomes comprehensively.
• Manage internal escalation of complex issues.
• Collaborate closely with sales, product management, operations, and engineering teams to address problems and relay customer feedback, including feature requests, quality concerns, and new product ideas.
• Provide detailed service reports that support departmental metrics.
• Interface with customers to determine the root cause of issues.
• Actively engage in team development and process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in commissioning and troubleshooting electrical circuits, three-phase motors, electronically commutated (EC) motors, and VFDs, including proficiency with electrical schematics, multimeters, amp probes, and oscilloscopes.
• At least 5 years’ experience in troubleshooting HVAC-related controls (e.g., Carel, Automated Logic, PLCs) and communication protocols (e.g., Modbus RTU, BACnet, RS-485, Ethernet TCP/IP).
• Basic understanding of relevant electrical, motor, and VFD industry standards, including UL, NEC, and NFPA 70E.
• Ability to lift up to 85 pounds.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel up to 95% of the time, primarily within the U.S. and occasionally to Canada.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology, or 7+ years of relevant field service experience.
• Ability to pass background checks for specific job sites.
• Capability to work in hot, non-climate-controlled environments.
• Proficiency in safety standards such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and fall protection.
• Comfortable working on ladders, man lifts, and scissor lifts at job sites.
Skills and Competencies
• Technical Expertise: Proficient in VFDs and motors, including repairs, preventive maintenance, upgrades, and installations.
• Travel Flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel on short notice to customer sites to resolve issues or support other field service personnel.
• Documentation Practices: Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, Office 365, and adherence to internal reporting and spare parts handling policies.
• Customer Interaction: Ability to demonstrate integrity, comprehension, and technical knowledge in all customer interactions.
• Collaboration Skills: Comfortable collaborating with internal teams and fellow Field Service Technicians to resolve customer issues and improve processes.
• Training and Development: Open to providing training to others and committed to enhancing technical proficiency through ongoing education.
• Adaptability: Comfortable with change and receptive to constructive feedback.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to meet physical demands, such as lifting up to 85 pounds and standing or kneeling for extended periods.
