The Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Planner to join our dynamic and high performing team. This position is based within the Queensland Metallurgy Maintenance Team providing support to the maintenance and processing teams. This position is on a residential basis in Mount Isa working a lifestyle focused 5/2 4/3 roster.
Reporting directly to the Superintendent – Planning & Reliability this position will provide high-level planning leadership across multiple operational assets to ensure standardized / efficient and cost-effective planning processes. The role will coach and mentor the Lead and Maintenance Planners, manage medium- to long-term planning horizons, ensure compliance with governance and statutory requirements, and drive cost control and efficiency for all maintenance activities. The role requires advanced SAP planning, budgeting, and cost management expertise.

Your key responsibilities include:
- Coach and mentor the Lead and Maintenance Planners across all Qld Metallurgy assets.
- Manage and support the end-to-end planning and scheduling activities of the planning teams.
- Standardize maintenance work management processes and practices across all Qld Metallurgy assets.
- Ensure accurate records in the CMMS systems are maintained to support reliability activities and cost analysis.
- Share technical knowledge and expertise through cross functional working relationships on matters relating to planning and maintenance standards.
- Capture, analyze and report back to work groups planning KPIs.
- Schedule planned work vs unplanned work.
- Schedule completion - percentage of work orders completed on the schedule.
- Schedule PM completion - percentage of preventative maintenance tasks completed on the schedule.
- Labor capacity utilization - available labour hours vs actual labour hours.
- Planned vs actual costs.
- Manage backlog (incomplete work) and forward log (future scheduled) maintenance work.
- Oversee the preparation and management of the plant shutdowns, planning and scheduling for all resources.
- Ensure accurate and consistent Gantt charts are developed in a timely manner for major planned outages to promote effective work execution.
- Possess a strong financial acumen, including forecasting, budgeting and cost management.
- Provide the data / costs to be included in the latest financial forecast based on upcoming planned work.
- Monitor maintenance expenditure against forecast and budget, identifying and reporting on variances.
- Oversee service purchase order management including creating, approving, tracking, invoicing and accruals.
- Manage and analyze contractor costs for role replacements and general / shutdown labor.
- Assist in developing the yearly maintenance plans and related operational and capital budget.
- Drive continuous improvement strategies to reduce costs while preserving reliability and statutory compliance.
- Review cost commitment reports to ensure accuracy and alignment with budget allocations.
- Comply with processes and procedures identified in the Maintenance Work Management System (MWMS).
- Collaborate with Maintenance Execution, Reliability Engineering, Supply/Procurement, Operations, Projects and Finance.
- Chair the planning function in business planning, asset strategy, and operational meetings.
- Ideally the applicant will have an engineering background in fixed mineral processing plants.
- And / or a trade background with minimum of 10 years’ experience in maintenance planning within mineral processing plants, or heavy industry.
- Experience leading and mentoring maintenance planners across multi operational areas.
- Strong background in maintenance work management and shutdown management processes.
- Advanced SAP PM experience, including:
- Creation and optimisation of task lists, maintenance plans, operations, and notifications.
- Work order scoping, estimating, and costing.
- Materials management functions: BOM creation, material reservations, stock checks, PR/PO processes.
- Budget tracking and cost reporting using SAP cost centres, settlement rules, and order cost analysis
- Strong understanding of planning governance, asset management principles, and statutory maintenance requirements.
- Experience in implementing Work Management Process improvements.
- Experience and expertise leading and developing multi-disciplinary teams to achieve business outcomes
- Strong cost management and budgeting capabilities, including:
- Developing, reviewing, and managing maintenance budgets (routine and shutdown).
- Producing cost forecasts, accruals, and variance analysis.
- Validating, approving, and controlling estimates for labour, materials, contractors, and resources.
- Implementing cost-saving initiatives while maintaining asset reliability.
