Our Glencore Metals Australia (GMA) business encompasses a complex and diverse scope across Zinc, Nickel and Copper Assets in Qld, NT and WA, including underground and open pit mines, processing plants (concentrators, smelters and a refinery) and port facilities.
The Role
This is an exciting and diverse specialist opportunity reporting to the Regional Manager Environment and Social Performance with the Glencore Metals Australia (GMA) regional Health, Safety, Environment and Community team. Your primary purpose will be to provide effective leadership and management for Environmental Approvals and Tenure across GMA delivering complex and strategic approvals and projects such a No Net Loss of Biodiversity. Success will require you to be self-driven, an innovative problem solver, have strong applied technical skills and thrive on challenges in a dynamic and exciting work environment.
Key Requirements
- Manage and lead the Environmental Approvals and Tenure team to deliver strategic advice and regulatory approvals for the GMA assets.
- Proactive leadership in developing and implementing strategies, team plans and targets, related to aspects including but not limited to approvals and compliance, No Net Loss of Biodiversity, and management of land leases.
- Ensure legislative frameworks and compliance obligations are known, understood and provide effective support to assets in regard to environmental and compliance risk mitigation.
- Advance work on environmental, human or regulatory risks and issues, providing pathways to resolution and management measures.
- Lead the preparation and review of Environmental Authority / Permit amendment applications and other regulatory requirements such as development plans and lease renewals.
- Maintain relationships with external regulatory bodies and non-regulatory groups, and influence legislative / policy change through industry groups and submissions.
- Contribute to pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for major projects.
- Create a positive team culture to sustain quality performance, professional development and a safe working environment.
What we expect to learn about you:
- You have tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline such as Environmental Science.
- Approximately ten years or more of experience relevant to environmental management in mining, including environmental planning, technical studies and approvals.
- Knowledge and experience in Australian environmental legislation, environmental assessments; and regulator and stakeholder engagement strategies.
- Several years of leadership experience, and effectively build rapport and trust within teams.
- Whilst you can see and develop strategic implications and opportunities you are also able to keep across the critical details.
- Effective planning and project management skills.
- You have the ability and willingness to travel to our Australian sites as required.
