Mutanda Mining (MUMI S.A.R.L) is a mining company whose registered office is at No. 4746, Avenue Laurent Désiré Kabila, Mutoshi District, Manika Commune, City of Kolwezi. Its operating headquarters, the center of its main activities, is located about 42 km from the city of Kolwezi in the province of Lualaba in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Main Objectives of the Position

Reporting directly to the Sulfide Project Director, the Construction Projects Manager is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, execution, and control of all construction activities related to the MUMI Sulfide Project, which includes a sulfide concentrator and a sulfation furnace (roasting, crushing, grinding, flotation, thickening, filtration, tailings interface, utilities, and associated infrastructure).

As the project progresses during the Feasibility Study (FS) phase, the scope may be expanded to include a Tailings Storage Facility (TSF), mining infrastructure, and electrical power supply systems.

The role ensures that construction works are delivered in accordance with the approved scope, schedule, budget, and safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Professional registration is preferred.

  • HSE certifications (e.g., safety training, risk assessment, first aid) are desirable.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in mining or heavy industrial construction, including at least 6 years in a construction leadership role.

  • Proven experience in the construction of processing plants.

  • Experience in Africa and/or remote site environments.

  • Experience working with a construction contractor and an Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) company, as well as in a leadership role within an Owner’s Team.

  • Experience in construction readiness and execution preparation.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of process plant circuits and industrial facility layouts.

  • Strong understanding of structural steel construction, mechanical equipment installation, piping systems (slurry, water, reagents), electrical systems, and instrumentation.

  • Proficiency in project management tools (Primavera / MS Project).

  • Understanding of EPCM contracting models.

  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills.

  • High sense of responsibility, integrity, and commitment.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Cross-cultural communication skills.

  • Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage construction activities on site for the project.

  • Manage EPCM contractors, subcontractors, and site supervisors.

  • Ensure alignment with technical design and engineering specifications.

  • Oversee civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and instrumentation works.

  • Contribute to the selection of a partner for the Feasibility Study (FS) to ensure continuity into the project implementation phase.

  • Work with the selected FS/EPCM partner to reduce construction risks, particularly related to HSE, schedule, and costs.

  • Participate in constructability and design reviews with the FS/EPCM partner.

  • Ensure compliance with site HSE standards and the zero-harm policy.

  • Promote a strong safety culture among contractors and staff.

  • Ensure implementation of risk assessments, work methods, and permit-to-work systems.

  • Conduct site inspections and participate in incident investigations.

  • Track construction progress against the project schedule (Level 3/4).

  • Proactively identify bottlenecks and mitigate risks to achieve project milestones.

  • Review contractor progress reports and productivity indicators.

  • Support cost control and change management processes.

  • Ensure compliance with project quality plans and Inspection and Test Plans (ITP).

  • Oversee completion activities and punch listing processes.

  • Ensure compliance with local mining regulations and environmental standards.

  • Support pre-commissioning and commissioning teams.

  • Interface with:

    • The Owner’s Team

    • Site operations departments

    • EPCM contractors, suppliers, and construction companies

    • The Operations Readiness team

    • Community relations

    • Regulatory authorities

  • Deliver presentations tosenior leadership on project progress and strategy.

  • Lead daily construction coordination meetings.

  • Train and mentor local construction supervisors.

  • Comply with Glencore’s environmental management requirements and procedures as well as MUMI SARL’s environmental policy.
